Position Title: Law Clerk - Snake River Basin Adjudication (SRBA) Effective Date: July 2026 Salary Grade/Range: 1 st Year - $78,774 2 nd Year - $80,774 3 rd Year - $84,224 FLSA Status: Exempt - Professional EEO Job Category: Professional General Position Summary The SRBA Law Clerk conducts in-depth legal research and analysis and drafts critical documents with a focus on Idaho water rights and Idaho water law.Assists with all aspects of carrying out judicial duties including extensive legal research and writing, taking notes in open court, calendaring, briefing, Presiding Judge and preparing files for hearing. This position reports to Administrative District Judge Wildman or designee. Major Duties and Responsibilities (The examples provided do not cover all the duties which the incumbent of this position may be required to perform.) Conducts research and analysis on legal issues relating to SRBA; Creates draft orders and memoranda on legal issues relating to SRBA; Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications The Judicial Branch reserves the right to consider an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience necessary to successfully perform the major responsibilities of the position. Education and Experience Possession of a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; Active member of the Idaho State Bar. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Idaho State Bar, or are inactive, must become an active member; One to three years of experience as a law clerk or other legal experience after earning a law degree; preference may be given to candidates with prior experience with precise legal writing (statutes, rules, and policies); Must have completed water law course or have a background in water law; Classes in public lands law, administrative law or related areas preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the Idaho Rules of Civil Procedure, Idaho Court Rules, Idaho Appellate Rules, Idaho Rules of Evidence, and Idaho Water Law Knowledge of legal principles and their application; Knowledge of judicial systems, including court processes, jurisdiction, administration, rules and procedures; Knowledge of the Idaho judicial system preferred; Skill in conducting legal research and analysis; Skill in statutory interpretation; Skill in synthesizing multiple feedback streams into a final product; Ability to express ideas and communicate suggestions and recommendations clearly and concisely verbally and in writing; Ability to establish effective cooperative working relationships with judges, court staff, and others; Ability to analyze complex issues and data and develop feasible solutions; Ability to work independently with very little direction and prioritize and manage time well; Ability to understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, policies, and regulations pertaining to the courts.
