Mammography Technologist

Job Description

Responsible for operating X-ray equipment that produces radiographs designated areas of the body for diagnostic purposes. Assists physicians in performing the imaging procedures, reviews and correlates patients' previous reports, and acts as a point of contact for various medical departments. Ensures proper documentation during the exam as required. Principal accountabilities include: positioning patients and changing immobilization devices to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body requested by physician, explaining procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation, moving x-ray equipment into specified positions and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors, practicing radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patient and staff, participating in QA/QC initiatives as well as MQSA process, specializing in production of screening and diagnostic x-rays for detection of breast tumors, performing bone density exams, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required: minimum 1 year of clinical experience as a staff technologist in Mammography or relevant area, state RT license, ARRT Mammography Certification, CPR Certified (BLS). Preferred: minimum of 200 mammography exams performed within past 24 months, certifications like ARDMS, BLS, RHM, CRT, associate degree.
