CNC Milling Set-Up Machinist, Plastics ManifoldsA day in your 1st-shift life

It’s 6:00 a.m. in Wallingford, CT and you’re powering up a vertical machining center. You load the first job, check offsets, and confirm the program is ready for a smooth run on precision plastic manifolds. Through the morning you rotate among vertical mills, lathes, and 3–5 axis CNC milling machines—forming, drilling, tapping, reaming, chamfering, and cutting with confidence. Between cycles, you deburr by hand, saw stock, bead blast, scrape plastic components, and install inserts to keep parts flowing. Quality is constant: you measure, inspect, adjust tooling and work offsets, watch chip evacuation and coolant flow, and keep a sharp eye on burr formation and tool wear. Before you clock out at 4:00 p.m., your time entries, in‑process counts, and Pro Shop/Part Level data are complete and your work orders meet their target times.

Role snapshot

• Set up and operate vertical machining centers, lathes, 3–5 axis CNC mills, and similar specialty equipment.
• Execute operations including forming, drilling, tapping, reaming, chamfering, and cutting.
• Follow blueprints and supervisor direction; adhere to the Quality Manual, procedures, and training.
• Record relevant process/IPC data in Pro Shop/Part Level during the run; track time accurately to meet “Time Against Work Order” targets and maintain in‑process part counts and daily time sheets.
• Support offline tasks: hand deburring, sawing, bead blasting, scraping of plastic parts, and insert installation.
• Hit part-level manufacturing target times; adjust tooling and work offsets to uphold part quality.
• Perform dimensional and visual inspections; monitor cutting tools, burr development, chip management, and coolant flow.

What you bring

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 2+ years of CNC machining experience and 1+ year of blueprint reading.
• Computer proficiency for work instructions, inspection data capture, and time entry.
• Certification/skill using basic metrology (e.g., micrometers); strong knowledge of measuring instruments.
• Familiarity with G&M code, cutting tools, and tool holders.
• Ability to multitask, manage time, communicate clearly, work well on a team, and stand for extended periods.
• Ability to follow detailed written or verbal instructions with sound judgment.
• Safe material handling: do not lift more than 35 lbs.; use handling devices or get team assistance when needed.

Preferred

• Background in precision machining of plastics.
• Experience with CMMs or other inspection equipment.
• ERP exposure; strong blueprint reading skills.

Schedule, location, and employment type

First shift, Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. This is a direct-hire, full-time role based on-site in Wallingford, CT. No travel is required.

Pay

Pay: $23–$29 per hour, based on experience. Starting pay will range between $23.00–$29.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. This is a full-time, hourly position.
