Substance Use Prevention Specialist (Project Management) Position Summary The Substance Use Prevention Specialist provides evidence-based substance use prevention, education, early intervention, and recovery support services across reStart Inc. programs. Working collaboratively with Housing Case Managers, Clinical Services Specialists, and community partners, this position promotes participant wellness through prevention programming, life skills development, behavioral health education, supportive counseling, crisis intervention, and community resource coordination. This role supports participants in reducing barriers to housing stability and overall well-being by providing trauma-informed, participant-centered services that encourage healthy decision- making, resilience, recovery, and long-term self-sufficiency. Key Responsibilities Prevention Education & Participant Support Develop, facilitate, and evaluate evidence-based substance use prevention and wellness programming for participants across reStart programs. Facilitate psychoeducational groups, life skills workshops, and prevention activities that promote healthy lifestyles, decision-making, and recovery-oriented behaviors. Provide individual supportive counseling, motivational coaching, crisis intervention, and recovery support within the scope of the position. Conduct participant screenings, assessments, and referrals for behavioral health, substance use treatment, recovery services, and other community resources as appropriate. Empower participants to actively engage in service planning and identify personal goals that support housing stability and overall wellness. Coordinate community-based educational activities, prevention initiatives, and experiential learning opportunities. Case Coordination & Community Collaboration Collaborate with Housing Case Managers, Clinical Services Specialists, and other multidisciplinary team members to coordinate participant services. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with behavioral health providers, recovery organizations, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and community agencies. Assist participants with navigating community resources that promote recovery, employment, education, healthcare access, transportation, and long-term stability. Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, participant staffing, case conferences, and community partnership meetings. Support continuity of care through effective communication with internal teams and external service providers. Documentation, Compliance & Quality Assurance Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation in agency databases and electronic record systems. Complete required documentation, billing records, assessments, screenings, and service notes in accordance with agency policies and funding requirements. Assist with data collection, outcome tracking, program reporting, and quality improvement initiatives. Maintain current knowledge of applicable grant requirements, agency policies, licensing standards, and evidence-based prevention practices. Assist leadership with preparation of program reports, statistical data, and outcome measures. Program Development & Organizational Support Participate in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of prevention programming and participant education initiatives. Assist with community outreach and organizational prevention campaigns. Support organizational initiatives that promote participant wellness and recovery. Utilize trauma-informed de-escalation techniques during behavioral health or crisis situations. Participate in required training, professional development, agency meetings, and committee work. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications & Experience Education Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Behavioral Health, Public Health, or a related field preferred. Equivalent education and experience may be considered. Missouri clinical licensure or certification (LMSW, LCSW, LPC, PLPC, CADC, CRADC, or related credential) preferred. Experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience providing behavioral health, substance use prevention, recovery support, counseling, case management, homelessness services, or related human services. Experience facilitating groups and delivering prevention education preferred. Experience working within community-based or nonprofit organizations preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of substance use prevention principles, behavioral health, recovery support, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed practices. Strong understanding of community resources and behavioral health referral systems. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills. Ability to build professional relationships with participants, team members, and community partners. Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage multiple priorities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and electronic documentation systems. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
