Job Requirements Job Title Speech Language Pathologist PRN Work Schedule : schedule will vary based on the needs, but day hours between 8:00am and 4:30pm Job Summary Delivers speech therapy services through evaluation of patient needs, goal determination, and development of treatment plans according to the principles and practices of speech pathology. Primary Responsibilities The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.
• Performs speech therapy services to patients in accordance with generally accepted standards, Maryland Board of Speech: Board of Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers, and Speech-Language Pathologists, code of ethics, and departmental policies and/or organizational procedures.
• Performs patient assessments and develops individualized treatment plan programs for clients/patients diagnosed as needing speech, language, or hearing interventions. Develops and maintains long- and short-term treatment objectives and re-evaluates and modifies treatment programs as necessary.
• Records patient evaluations, re-evaluations and care provided in the medical record, in accordance with departmental documentation standards.
• Informs patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members of evaluation results and plan for treatment and refers for further evaluation.
• Plans and provides therapy education and counseling to individuals.
• Provides mentorship and training to clinical team members and/or students as eligible based on departmental needs.
• Demonstrates interdisciplinary, safe, patient-centered care and delivers excellent customer service.
• Participates in performance improvement activities and suggests areas for improvement to colleagues in a tactful and considerate manner. Proposes performance improvement topics and alternate treatment techniques to improve therapy services.
• Reports clinical and operational issues to departmental leadership and assists in their resolution to assure high quality care and efficient departmental operations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned. Education & Experience - Required
• Education: Master's degree in speech language pathology.
• Experience: Successful completion of Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY). 1 year of experience beyond the CFY is preferred.
• Licensure/Certifications: o Full speech pathology license in the state of Maryland. o Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC) is required. o Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Ability to access, review, and integrate information from a variety of sources to develop a treatment plan.
• Strong verbal, written, and non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to instruct others.
• Interpersonal skills to enable the therapist to establish and maintain rapport with patient as part of the therapeutic relationship.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse healthcare team.
• Ability to manage time and set priorities according to the demands of the job.
• Ability to conceptualize and problem-solve in the management of the patient.
• Ability to break down functional tasks to achieve patient centered goals.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality with patients and team members.
• Ability to effectively use various pieces of medical and therapeutic equipment. Work Experience Skills & Qualifications for an Outpatient Speech Therapist (Neuro & Cognitive Focus) Clinical Expertise Experience treating adults with neurological disorders, including stroke, TBI, Parkinson's disease, dementia, and other acquired brain injuries. Strong ability to assess and treat cognitive-communication impairments, including deficits in memory, attention, executive functioning, problem-solving, and reasoning. Proficiency in evaluating and treating aphasia, dysarthria, apraxia of speech, and other communication impairments resulting from neurological conditions. Ability to develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans targeting communication, cognition, and functional participation. Skilled in functional, real-world communication tasks to support independence in daily activities and community reintegration. Cognitive Rehabilitation Skills Competence in delivering cognitive-communication therapy, addressing attention, memory, organization, processing speed, and executive functioning. Ability to teach and reinforce compensatory strategies for cognitive deficits, including memory supports, organizational systems, and environmental modifications. Familiarity with ASHA guidelines for cognitive rehabilitation and evidence-based approaches for acquired brain injury. Communication & Patient Interaction Strong ability to educate patients and families on communication strategies, home programs, and long-term management of cognitive-communication disorders. Skilled at working with individuals who have reduced insight, emotional regulation challenges, or pragmatic communication deficits. Excellent interpersonal communication skills to support rapport-building, motivation, and patient engagement. Outpatient Environment Skills Comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient clinic, managing a full caseload while maintaining high-quality care. Strong documentation skills, including efficient use of EMR systems and clear, functional goal writing. Ability to collaborate effectively with PT, OT, physicians, neuropsychologists, and other interdisciplinary team members.
