Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT)

As a Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you perform nuclear medicine imaging procedures to help diagnose and monitor disease. You prepare radiopharmaceuticals, operate gamma cameras, and ensure patient safety and image quality in outpatient imaging centers or hospital departments. The role emphasizes accurate imaging acquisition, protocol adherence, and collaboration with physicians to optimize diagnostic yield.

Responsibilities

• Prepare radiopharmaceuticals and ensure correct dosages under safety guidelines.
• Position patients, perform imaging studies, and monitor vital signs during procedures.
• Operate gamma cameras, SPECT/CT, and relevant imaging hardware; adjust protocols as needed.
• Analyze image quality, document findings, and communicate preliminary results to physicians.
• Maintain radiation safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance; participate in routine QC testing.
• Educate patients about procedures and post-procedure instructions.
• Document procedures and comp medications in the electronic health record.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate degree or bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related field.

Licensure:

Certification by ARRT in Nuclear Medicine Technology; state licensure if required by jurisdiction.

Certifications:

• ARRT Nuclear Medicine Technology
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and radiation safety training

Experience or Skills:

1+ year of clinical imaging experience; strong attention to radiation safety and patient communication.

Experience

• Imaging procedures in nuclear medicine including PET/CT or SPECT/CT
• Experience with radiopharmaceutical handling and dose calculations

Preferred

• Experience in a PET/CT or full-service nuclear medicine department

Work Environment

Work is performed in nuclear medicine labs or radiology suites with exposure to radiation safety protocols. Schedule may include daytime hours with potential on-call coverage; dependent on department needs and patient volume.
