Position Summary

The Network Engineer designs, implements, operates, and improves R+L Carriers enterprise routing, switching, wireless, security, wide-area, and data center networks. The role ensures reliable, secure connectivity for terminals, offices, data centers, cloud services, and business applications.

This engineer resolves complex incidents, executes controlled changes, maintains standards and documentation, supports projects and life-cycle upgrades, and participates in on-call coverage. The position collaborates with support, security, systems, telecom, application, and vendor teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement routing, switching, wireless, SD-WAN, firewall, load-balancing, and data center network solutions.

• Translate business and technical requirements into secure, supportable designs and implementation plans.

• Develop standards, configurations, diagrams, test plans, and rollback procedures.

• Evaluate capacity, resilience, interoperability, and life-cycle risks.

• Monitor network health, performance, availability, and capacity.

• Diagnose and resolve complex connectivity, routing, switching, wireless, security, and application-delivery issues.

• Participate in on-call support and major-incident response.

• Perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring problems.

• Plan, test, document, and execute network changes under approved controls.

• Deliver assigned upgrades, refreshes, site deployments, and infrastructure projects on schedule.

• Coordinate maintenance windows, vendors, carriers, field teams, and business stakeholders.

• Validate production readiness, monitoring, support handoff, and post-change results.

• Implement segmentation, access controls, secure configurations, and vulnerability remediation.

• Maintain accurate logical and physical diagrams, inventories, standards, configurations, and procedures.

• Support audits, disaster-recovery tests, and security investigations.

• Share knowledge and provide technical guidance to network support personnel.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.

• Active CCNA certification or equivalent knowledge and experience.

Experience

• 5 or more years of enterprise network engineering experience preferred.

• Experience supporting routing, switching, wireless, security, WAN, and data center network architectures.

• Experience leading technical changes, troubleshooting complex incidents, and delivering projects.

• Experience working with vendors, carriers, support teams, and business stakeholders.

Technical Competencies

• Cisco routing and switching; Palo Alto security; F5 application delivery; Aruba SD-WAN; Cradlepoint or comparable technologies.

• TCP/IP, routing protocols, VLANs, QoS, wireless, VPN, firewall, load balancing, DNS, DHCP, and network monitoring.

• SolarWinds or comparable monitoring and performance-analysis tools.

• Network automation, configuration management, change control, and technical documentation.
