Payroll Supervisor

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Supervisor to lead our payroll operations team and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across a large multi-state workforce. This leadership role is responsible for supervising payroll staff, overseeing payroll administration, resolving complex payroll issues, and supporting continuous process improvements within the department. The ideal candidate brings strong payroll expertise, proven leadership experience, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Key Responsibilities Supervise the daily activities of Payroll Specialists, including hiring, training, coaching, development, scheduling, and performance management. Oversee payroll processing operations and ensure payroll deadlines are consistently me Resolve complex payroll issues related to processing, taxation, garnishments, system functionality, and compliance. Serve as a subject matter expert and provide guidance on payroll policies, procedures, and government regulation Review and ensure completion of recurring payroll audits and quality control measures each pay period. Process payroll as needed and manage payroll cycle closure Coordinate staffing schedules to ensure timely responses to payroll inquiries via phone and email. Partner with the Payroll Manager to develop cross-training programs and maintain payroll process documentation. Collaborate with Human Resources, HRIS, Finance, and operational teams to improve data accuracy and minimize payroll errors. Act as the primary payroll contact for assigned facilities and regional offices, providing prompt and professional support. Support departmental initiatives and perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Experience Minimum of 7 years of experience processing multi-state payrolls for organizations with 5,000+ employee Experience balancing payroll, preparing payroll tax filings, and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations At least 1 year of demonstrated leadership, lead, or supervisory experience. Strong knowledge of payroll systems and payroll-related regulations. Advanced Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in Business or a related field. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation. Experience with UKG, Kronos, or similar payroll systems. Query and report-writing experience. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills. Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all organizational levels. High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive employee and payroll information. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
