Senior Materials Manager

Overview The Senior Manager of Materials is responsible for overseeing the master production scheduling, allocation of raw materials, work in process, and inventory management. This role ensures the creation of supply plans that support production and material requirements, aligning with strategic business objectives outlined within the Sales Inventory Operations Process (SIOP) contributing to the improvement of customer on time delivery, inventory turns, inventory goals and other metrics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Develop and implement supply plans to meet customer orders, forecasted demand, and inventory stocking requirements. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage inventory according to business strategy constraints and targets. Participate in monthly Sales and Operations Planning meetings, accountable for supply chain reporting. Participate in daily product line board reviews, and daily production reviews. Ensure proper utilization of ERP systems across the planning team. Prepare and report on department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) with analysis and countermeasures. Lead the creation and communication of production and operational reports. Report and distribute monthly SIOP supply KPI scorecards, including material availability, days on hand, safety stock, cost of inventory, and inventory turns. Maintain critical inventory parameters for raw materials, considering supply lead time, warehouse, and transportation constraints. Interact with demand management, manufacturing, engineering, quality, warehousing, transportation, and customer service to resolve material issues. Communicate and coordinate changes to the build plans with customer service and operations. Measure, analyze, and report key process metrics, monitoring adherence to KPIs. Identify potential material shortages and develop action plans. Manage long-term capacity status, weekly category KPI updates, product shortage reporting, and daily information flow among supply planning partners. Define and implement Make-to-Order (MTO) and Make-to-Stock (MTS) strategies. Ensure appropriate inventory levels are maintained for all product lines. Manage inventory levels, and delivery timing to achieve inventory and on-time delivery goals. Evaluate excess and obsolete material to drive corrective actions. Identify and lead cost savings initiatives, supporting lean and continuous improvement initiatives. Partner with corporate purchasing teams to evaluate suppliers based on quality, delivery, and cost expectations as it pertains to outside processing. Optimize and maintain parameters and records associated with outside processing parts in the ERP system. Utilize inventory stratification processes and PFEP (Plan for Every Part) to determine appropriate inventory levels and purchase quantities. Oversee resolution of transactional and quality issues related to outside processing materials. Maintain confidentiality of information obtained during the course of work. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities Extensive knowledge of Supply Chain and Inventory Planning concepts. Strong analytical skills with attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and manage time independently. Hands-on experience with supply chain management software (SAP preferred). Experience leading supply management processes within a manufacturing organization. Ability to analyze data, find creative solutions, generate reports, and present findings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to think abstractly and collaborate with others. Ability to prioritize tasks, apply complex concepts to problem-solving, and negotiate effectively with vendors. Thorough understanding of MRP and its inputs in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Excel and Word. Collaborative team relationship with direct reports, peers, and colleagues. Customer-centric, service-minded attitude with a strong sense of urgency. Willingness to accept change and new approaches. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in a Business-related or Technical Field, Supply Chain, or Operations degree preferred. 7+ years of related experience. Practical manufacturing experience in planning, input/output control, bills of materials, routing, and inventory management. Prior leadership experience. ERP experience. Financial and business acumen. Advanced analytical skills. APICS and/or CPM Certification preferred.
