Registered Nurse - Operating Room

Registered Nurse (RN)

ERP International is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) for a Full-time position in support of the Operation Room at Mike O'Callaghan Military Medical Center, Nellis AFB, NV.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing professional nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.
• Preparing and maintaining the operating room for all surgical procedures.
• Establishing and utilizing a checklist to monitor the physical plan of the operating room and equipment for conformity to all national standards for ensuring safety for the patient and all personnel.
• Circulates for surgical emergencies and responds to surgical emergency requirements such as cardiac, pulmonary, or respiratory failure and hemorrhage.
• Maintaining open communication lines, both interdepartmentally and interdepartmentally, to provide for total needs of the patient.
• Conducting preoperative and postoperative discussions with patients and informing them of what to expect during surgery.
• Consulting with the operating surgeon and establishing priorities of care for each patient entering the operating suite.
• Coordinating with other hospital units on patients, progress and any special equipment or supplies that will be needed for the patient returning from surgery.
• Clinically directing and instructing personnel in preparing, sterilizing, and caring for operating room equipment and maintaining concise and complete records and reports.
• Coordinating an ongoing, in-service education program to continually update knowledge and skills of all assigned operating room nursing personnel.
• Initiating, performing, and completing assigned duties in providing care to variable patient populations based upon the assessed needs of the patient and in relation to the proposed.
• Complete assigned patient care based on the patients' conditions, use judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments, and accurately recognize, report and record relevant patient information.
• Observing, identifying, and responding to the patient's needs for care, including medication, equipment-assisted care, and patient/family education.
• Providing perioperative nursing care, for all types of patients admitted to the surgical suite for surgical intervention. Includes elective, urgent and emergency procedures on patients of all ages.
• Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for all patients including newborns, children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly; disabled to include visually and hearing impaired; and individuals of varying ethnic, and religious backgrounds to include those who do not speak or understand English.
• Participating and complying with quality and process improvement activities, meetings, and events to ensure compliance with national standards and guidelines.
• Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required.
• Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper documentation of patient's condition including disease progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up

• Prepare and administer prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular and/or intravenous) to include blood and blood products and perform treatments according to established policies/procedures.

Qualifications include:

• Bachelor's Degree of Nursing. Graduate from an accredited college or university approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
• A minimum of 12 months of experience is mandatory in operating room assignments. Experience must include all phases of operating room technique such as preparing operating room units, preparing patients for surgery, assisting medical officer during surgery, conducting instrument and equipment sterilization procedures, and assisting anesthesia provider with post anesthesia recovery if PACU or ICU not available.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse from any state
• BLS/ACLS/PALS from American Red Cross or American Health Association.

Pay Scale: $45/hr to $58/hr, to be determined based on employment options, qualifications, experience, and location
