Family Medicine Scribe

The Family Medicine Scribe plays a vital role in assisting the family medicine physician, by documenting patient interactions, medical histories, examinations, and treatment plans in real-time during patient visits. The scribe is responsible for accurately capturing and transcribing medical information to optimize physician efficiency and enhance patient care delivery.

Responsibilities

• Documentation: Record detailed and accurate medical history, physical exam findings, assessments, treatment plans, and other pertinent information provided by the family medicine physician.
• Chart Management: Maintain electronic health records (EHR) by entering data in an organized and timely manner, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and practice standards.
• Communication: Facilitate effective communication between the physician and patients by assisting in patient education, conveying instructions, and addressing inquiries under the physician's direction.
• Coding Assistance: Assist in assigning appropriate medical codes to patient encounters for billing and reimbursement purposes.
• Team Collaboration: Collaborate with the medical team, including physicians, nurses, and administrative staff, to support efficient workflow and high-quality patient care.
• Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and data security.
• Quality Assurance: Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance documentation accuracy, completeness, and overall practice efficiency.
• Training and Development: Stay updated on family medicine terminology, procedures, and EMR systems through continuous learning and professional development activities.
• All other duties as requested.

Qualifications

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree or healthcare-related certification or degree is preferred.

Experience:

• Previous experience as a medical scribe in a family medicine setting is advantageous.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Proficiency in medical terminology, EHR systems, and computer applications.
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask effectively.
• Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining a high standard of professionalism.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and adapt to the dynamic demands of a healthcare environment.

Physical Requirements:

• The Family Medicine Scribe typically works in a clinical setting alongside the family medicine physician and other healthcare professionals.
• May involve sitting for extended periods, utilizing computer systems, and interacting closely with patients and medical staff.
