Special Information:

This position may be eligible for a statutory base pay increase of $1.00 an hour effective July 1, 2026.

This position requires frequent travel and working conditions in a field setting. Overnight travel is also required and may entail using FWP facilities. Working conditions include working outdoors in all seasons and in unpredictable and inclement weather. The incumbent should be in good overall physical condition and possess sufficient outdoor skills to withstand the rigors and demands of outdoor work and to carry out duties effectively and safely. Lifting 30-50 pounds is commonly required.

Job Duties:

The Great Falls Maintenance Team Supervisor plays a key leadership role within the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division as part of the Region 4 maintenance team. Working closely with the Region 4 Maintenance Manager, Stewardship Bureau Chief, and regional staff, this position identifies maintenance needs, develops workflows for routine tasks, and helps set priorities for major maintenance projects in the Great Falls, Lewistown, and White Sulphur Springs areas. The supervisor provides direct oversight of Maintenance Worker I and II staff and ensures accurate and consistent keeping of maintenance activities.

The supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, overseeing, and inspecting maintenance work across a wide range of facilities and infrastructure. This includes maintaining, repairing, and constructing buildings and structures; managing equipment fleets; and ensuring all work is completed in a proactive, sustainable manner.

Areas of oversight include:

• Infrastructure such as vault latrines, historic structures, campgrounds, picnic shelters, docks, boat ramps, fences, paved and gravel roads, parking areas, and paved or aggregate trails

• Managing and executing service contracts, including verifying vendor licensing, insurance coverage, and compliance with all applicable requirements

• Directional, informational, and interpretive signage and kiosks

• Maintenance shop facilities and associated tools, equipment, and systems

• Habitat ‑ related maintenance including farming, tree planting, mowing, operation of large ‑ scale irrigation systems, and noxious weed control.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with regional maintenance staff, recreation managers, biologists, game wardens, and other agency personnel. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. The supervisor must be skilled at building positive working relationships and applying effective supervisory and management principles.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Understanding of weed management methods (chemical, biological, and mechanical) and ability to operate as a licensed applicator

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and ServiceNow

• Working knowledge of general maintenance and construction practices, including carpentry, plumbing, welding, electrical work, and engine repair

• Strong knowledge of safety protocols, traffic regulations, PPE use, proper towing procedures, and the ability to train staff accordingly

• Experience using and maintaining a range of tools and heavy/light construction equipment, along with the ability to train staff in equipment operation

• Demonstrating strong supervisory skills, including conducting employee performance reviews, implementing performance improvement plans, and supporting staff development

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a 2-year degree/training in maintenance, Industrial Arts, Natural Resource Management, Engineering Technology, Mechanics, Land Management, or a related field and/or at least 5 years of general facilities
