Bus Monitor (Open Year Round) Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Transportation Supervisor Pay Grade: DO 1 180 Days Department: Transportation Location: Service Center Date Revised: September 26, 2023 Primary Purpose To provide supervision of students being transported by district vehicles. Qualifications Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED Special Knowledge/Skills: Possess positive attitude toward people and professional situations and is able to resolve student problems. Exceptional communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills Ability to deal with special need students Must be able to communicate effectively in speaking, reading, and writing in English Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus Preferred Experience: None Major Responsibilities and Duties Responsible for general welfare of student’s safety. Assists pupils on and off the bus. Controls behaving of pupils on the bus and reports discipline problems as instructed by the supervisor. Supervises the use of seat belts on the bus. Works with the driver to ensure good relations with parents, school officials and related parties. Operates a wheelchair lift and wheelchair tie downs. Knowledge of routes in order to assist a substitute driver. Attends required staff developments. Handles special children in a professional manner. Demonstrates leadership with proper attendance and punctuality. Follows the chain of command as noted in organizational policy. Uses time wisely to ensure productivity and efficiency.
