Custom Brokerage Department Manager

This role leads the Customs Brokerage department for a premier, asset-based third-party logistics (3PL) provider established in 1986. As a key subsidiary of a world-renowned Fortune 500 global conglomerate, the company leverages an extensive logistics network partnering with over 66,000 transportation providers globally to deliver end-to-end supply chain solutions. As the Department Manager, you will oversee and participate in daily customs operations, ensuring timely and accurate entry filings with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This position manages a cross-regional team of entry writers and supervisors while acting as a key liaison with regulatory bodies and international forwarding units. Operations & Compliance Management Oversee end-to-end import/export customs operations; ensure strict adherence to CBP regulations, tariff classifications, and duty calculations. Team Leadership & Development Supervise a cross-regional team (including an Operations Manager, Brokerage Supervisor, and Entry Writers across multiple offices); provide operational and regulatory training. Liaison & Client Relations Act as the primary contact for US Customs inquiries, resolve ISF or entry issues, and nurture strong client relationships. Financial Oversight Manage the department budget, monitor revenue generation, handle profit and loss (P&L) reporting, and identify cost-saving opportunities. Sales Collaboration Support the Business Development team by promoting brokerage services to new and existing customers. Style Hybrid (3 days in office / 2 days work-from-home). Working Location Arlington Heights, IL (Small office suite environment). Salary / Benefit Base Salary: $105,000 - $120,000 per year Pay Type: Exempt Bonus: Annual discretionary bonus (based on performance, non-guaranteed). Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field is preferred (or 5+ years of customs brokerage experience in lieu of a degree). Experience: 5–7 years of management experience in customs operations with extensive knowledge of clearance services. Technical Skills: Hands‑on experience with CargoWise software is required. Certifications: Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) is required. Active U.S. Customs Broker License is preferred.
