Construction Inspector

EMS Senior TechnicianWe are seeking an experienced EMS Senior Technician to support HVAC Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Energy Management Systems (EMS) operations for projects with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).This role is ideal for a hands-on HVAC controls professional with strong troubleshooting, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and energy management experience. The ideal candidate will have experience working with multiple DDC platforms, a solid understanding of HVAC systems and basic networking principles, and the ability to identify energy-saving opportunities while supporting EMS operations across District facilities.Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssist with maintaining and repairing HVAC Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and Energy Management Systems (EMS)Support EMS operations alongside technical quality support teamsAssist with EMS and DDC design reviews and submittal reviewsPerform troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of HVAC DDC systems and basic electrical issuesEnergy Management & Preventive MaintenanceReview utility and energy usage data to identify opportunities for recommissioning and retro-commissioningAnalyze EMS alarms and system data to identify: Preventive maintenance opportunitiesLow-cost/no-cost energy conservation measuresFacility improvement opportunitiesAssist in implementing energy-saving solutions across District facilitiesField Operations & Site AssessmentsConduct site visits to inspect and evaluate EMS/DDC conditionsScope and support low-cost repair solutions and system improvementsRespond to field trouble calls and resolve operational issues efficientlySupport in-house commissioning projects and startup activitiesTechnical Coordination & SupportAssist installation personnel and contractors with system troubleshooting and commissioning supportSupport project teams during static and dynamic startup phasesMaintain organized documentation of field activities and system performanceQualifications & RequirementsRequired ExperienceMinimum 3+ years of professional experience as an HVAC DDC TechnicianStrong understanding of: HVAC operationsDirect Digital Controls (DDC) systemsEnergy Management Systems (EMS)Basic electrical troubleshootingUnderstanding of computer networking principles including: ConfigurationMaintenanceTroubleshootingAbility to: Wire HVAC DDC systemsPerform startupsTroubleshoot HVAC controls issuesRequired EducationAssociate or Bachelor's degree in: Mechanical EngineeringElectrical EngineeringComputer ScienceInformation TechnologyOr related fieldOR Two-year technical degree in: HVACElectronicsRelated technical studiesAdditional experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basisPreferred QualificationsExperience with multiple DDC platforms including: Automated LogicCarrierDeltaDistechSchneider ElectricTraneExperience with: Commissioning and retro-commissioningStartup troubleshootingSupporting installation teams and contractors onsiteStrong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills
