Job Summary:
Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead and oversee all accounting and financial operations. This strategic leadership role serves as the financial backbone of the organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing cash flow, and providing executive leadership with actionable financial insights. The ideal candidate will bring extensive construction accounting experience, strong technical expertise, and a proven ability to build and lead high-performing accounting teams in a fast-paced environment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare and present accurate, timely financial statements and management reports to executive leadership.
• Analyze financial performance, identify trends, and provide variance analysis with actionable recommendations.
• Develop and maintain financial reporting standards, KPIs, and performance benchmarks.
• Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, payroll, and general ledger activities.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with deadlines.
• Maintain and enhance internal controls over financial reporting, revenue recognition, and expenditures.
• Coordinate tax planning, reporting, and compliance activities with external accounting partners.
• Manage company cash flow, liquidity planning, forecasting, and banking relationships.
• Monitor invested assets and company benefit plan portfolios and oversee vendor relationships.
• Partner with department leaders to develop annual budgets, forecasts, and financial models.
• Provide strategic financial guidance to leadership by identifying business risks and growth opportunities.
• Lead the annual operating budget process and support long-term financial planning initiatives.
• Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain accounting staff while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
• Establish performance goals, conduct evaluations, and support professional development within the accounting team.
• Support ERP system enhancements, implementations, and process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant construction accounting experience.
• 3+ years of leadership experience managing accounting teams.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and accounting best practices.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Understanding of product manufacturing and inventory management.
• Excellent analytical, communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential financial information.

Preferred:
• CPA designation and/or MBA.
• Experience with ERP systems and accounting software implementations.
• Prior experience within construction, manufacturing, or similar operational environments.
