Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages, including pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations, in an emergency department setting
• Conduct thorough nursing assessments through interviewing, observation, and the nursing process; document findings including review of body systems, laboratory results, and diagnostic data
• Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with physicians and the broader healthcare team; update plans based on ongoing reassessment
• Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately; operate and monitor basic and specialty medical equipment including defibrillators, EKG machines, ventilators, and chest tube setups
• Provide patient and family education on tests, procedures, disease processes, and discharge instructions; participate in staff in-services and departmental educational programs
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team; assist in orienting new staff and provide leadership and delegation to CNAs and Techs during assigned shifts

Required Qualifications

• Valid, current, full, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Alaska — must be active at time of submission
• Current BLS and PALS certifications required upon hire
• ACLS certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire date
• Current flu vaccination required
• Ability to make independent clinical decisions, maintain full accountability for actions taken, and respond calmly and effectively in emergent situations
• Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to accurately enter and retrieve patient data and communicate findings with the healthcare team

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Minimum one year of clinical nursing experience
• Prior experience in an emergency department or specialty nursing environment
• TNCC/ATCN and NRP certifications
