Job Overview Dining Room Coordinators are hired for 9-month or 12-month schedules. Positions are 40 hours per week and fully benefited. Applications will be reviewed as openings become available. If selected for interview, candidates will be contacted directly. Essential Functions Serve students and guests in dining facilities. Prepare dining areas for meal service, setting up equipment and tableware and referring to the menu as a guide. Deliver food to the service area in a sequential manner to ensure proper temperature. Set up ancillary items and decorate for specialized or themed dining. Monitor the dining area during service to maintain adequate food supply, sanitary conditions, and proper customer check‑in. Ensure proper storage of food items after meals, promptly clean up, and prepare service areas for the next meal. Participate in the preparation and service of special dinners and functions. Train, instruct, and develop competent student workers for all dining service duties, verify payrolls, and demonstrate safe work habits. Maintain a smooth, safe, and efficient dining room and dish pantry operation. Clean, organize, and maintain all assigned dish pantry, storage, serving, and dining areas. Perform all cleaning procedures within an established schedule, including dishwashing, sanitizing equipment (toasters, juice machines, salad bars, etc.), vacuuming, dry mopping, sweeping, and mopping floors and entryways. Set up and maintain dining access systems for all meals; welcome guests and verify identification. Collect guest meal money, record meal counts accurately, and review registers with the Area Manager. Order, receive, and store linen and supplies correctly. Inventory china, silver, equipment, and glassware as required; submit work orders to the Chef or Area Manager. Follow opening and closing procedures for public spaces, secure all equipment, recycle, and discard waste appropriately. Project a positive public image; use computers to access allergen information and print required labels for food items. Communicate accurately, professionally, and discreetly with staff, students, house leaders, guests, and the Area Manager to ensure an orderly, efficient dining operation. Update menu boards, use e‑mail and college computer access responsibly, review department notices, and follow the Area Manager’s directions. Attend assigned training sessions, workshops, and meetings. Complete payroll and scheduling forms within deadlines. Perform related tasks, initiate teamwork, collaboration, and cooperation among co‑workers. Minimum Qualifications Completion of high school or vocational school education with a minimum of 2 years of combined educational and commercial experience in the hospitality industry. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and perform basic arithmetic. Banquet waitperson or front‑of‑house experience in a fine dining establishment and experience in customer service positions. ServSafe certification or some culinary experience preferred. Requirements of the position are consistent with the responsibilities and duties of persons within the food service profession under state and federal guidelines. Skills Tolerate exposure to water, cleaning chemicals, higher noise levels, heat, and humidity consistent with commercial kitchen equipment. Demonstrate adequate physical strength and coordination to clean and receive supplies while using standard food service utensils and equipment. Lift and move 25 pounds, work from a step stool, walk and stand for prolonged periods, bend, reach, pull, and push. Manipulate utensils and equipment repetitively for up to 45% of an assigned shift. Move mobile between work stations and other dining areas on campus; possess strong interpersonal skills. Possess good vision with or without correction. Practice good personal hygiene and wear clean uniforms in compliance with public health standards and college policy. Obtain and maintain Serv‑Safe, Food Allergen, and Anti‑Choke certifications within one year of hiring. Adhere to sustainability initiatives set by the department. Use basic computer skills, including emailing, ordering supplies, and sign making. Compensation Positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement with a progressive wage schedule. The Step1 hourly rate is $22.30. New hires are typically placed at Step1.
