Pipe Fitter Trainee or Certification – 2026 High School Graduates – Sign‑On Bonus Location: Newport News, Virginia, United States Date: Jul 22, 2026 US Citizenship Required: Yes Full‑time, multiple shifts; relocation assistance available; no telework; no travel required. Salary Range: $59,675.20 to $62,067.20 (base pay; final compensation based on experience, qualifications, and other factors). The Role This position is for recent or upcoming 2026 high school graduates. A $500 sign‑on bonus and a $500 relocation bonus (for those living 50 miles or greater from Newport News, VA) are available to eligible new hires. Candidates must complete a three‑week unpaid training program in the pipefitter trade or provide a certificate or diploma in a related field such as commercial pipefitting, plumbing, HVAC, irrigation, welding, hydraulics, or storm/wastewater management. Successful completion may waive the trainee program requirement. The hiring organization partners with Virginia Ship Repair Association, local community colleges, and maritime training facilities to offer Marine Trades Training (MTT) programs. Pipefitters are responsible for installing complex systems on ships, including up to 23 miles of pipe on submarines and 230 miles on aircraft carriers. Responsibilities include assembling, welding, securing pipe, troubleshooting, inspecting, and testing piping systems, and reading blueprints and fabrication drawings. Work conditions involve varied weather, extreme heights on scaffolding or ladders, small confined spaces such as tanks or voids, and require a strong focus on safety, precision, and physical agility. Must Have Pass a three‑week unpaid program (120 hours, 7:00 am–3:30 pm, Monday–Friday) or possess certification/diploma in pipefitting or a related field. Willing to undergo background investigation and drug screen. Pass physical agility test and lift at least 40 pounds. Perform kneeling, squatting, crawling, bending, stooping, and climbing on a daily basis. Perform overhead work and work at extreme heights. Work outdoors year‑round in all weather conditions. Work in small, tight, confined spaces. Work overtime as needed and any shift. Maintain a clean shaven appearance to wear a respirator. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; certificates/diplomas in pipefitting or related trades are preferred. Physical fitness and ability to meet the job's physical demands. U.S. citizenship required.
