AI can teach a six-year-old to read. It cannot make her want to. Closing that gap is your work. At Alpha, K-3 students complete two hours of daily academics using AI-powered applications. As a Guide, you lead a single cohort band — K-1 (Kindergarten through 1st grade) or 2-3 (2nd through 3rd grade) — and adjust your energy, timing, and workshop approach to fit that band. No lectures. No worksheets. You spend half your day facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops on topics like public speaking, focus, and feedback exchange. A playbook is provided, but effective Guides modify it for their cohort and create new activities when needed. The remaining half, you work 1:1 or in small groups, analyze Coachbot data, and guide each student to complete 100% of their weekly app targets. Warmth creates the trust necessary to challenge. Challenge signals your belief in their capability. Success each quarter means every student completes their weekly app targets, passes the Test2Pass for every life-skills workshop, and 90% or more say they love you. Fall short on any of those three metrics and the role was not fulfilled. Year one is about mastering the playbook; once you demonstrate you can maintain standards, the pathway to Lead Guide opens, where you mentor new hires while continuing to lead your own cohort. If you prefer traditional teaching, expect a ready-made curriculum with no adaptation, or view warmth and rigor as incompatible, this role is not suitable. If you have experience as an early-elementary teacher who excelled at circle time, a camp counselor for young children, a youth sports coach, or a children's theater performer, the final step before an offer is a shadow day coaching actual Alpha students. What You Will Be Doing Facilitating one-hour life-skills workshops for K-3 cohorts on public speaking, focus, feedback, and other foundational skills, customizing the playbook for your group rather than delivering it verbatim. Conducting daily 1:1 and small-group coaching sessions that maintain every student's progress toward weekly app targets, leveraging Coachbot analytics, Alpha's incentive structures (school currency, leaderboards), and the individual rapport you build with each child. Administering Alpha's Test2Pass mastery-based assessment for each life skill, then coaching students who do not pass until mastery is achieved. Meeting kindergarteners at their developmental stage with songs, stories, movement, and playfulness while simultaneously holding second and third graders accountable to concrete, measurable standards. Being the warm presence children are excited to see at drop-off AND the adult who will not permit them to settle for less. What You Won’t Be Doing Delivering whiteboard instruction. Academic content is delivered through the apps, not by you. Creating curriculum from the ground up. Alpha supplies the playbook; you animate it. Passively monitoring children on computers. Motivation in this role is active, individualized, and persistent. Adjusting a weekly target downward so a student can achieve it. When a student falls behind, the intervention focuses on the student, not the goal. Grading homework, conducting standardized test preparation, or handling parent communications. Campus Leads manage parent-facing responsibilities, and the other tasks are not part of this model. Learning Coach Key Responsibilities Guarantee that every student in your K-3 cohort completes their weekly learning targets, achieves mastery in each life skill, and finishes the year saying they loved you. Basic Requirements Willing to work on-site at an Alpha campus in La Jolla (San Diego), Lake Forest (Orange County), Palo Alto, Piedmont, San Francisco, Santa Monica, or South Bay (LA), CA; Greenwich, CT; Boca Raton, Miami Beach, or Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Chicago, IL; or Boston, MA (relocation support provided). Bachelor's degree in any subject. At least 3 years working directly with children ages 4 to 9 (early-elementary teaching, coaching, tutoring, camp counseling, or youth program leadership). A concrete example you can describe of motivating a young child toward a challenging goal: the goal itself, your actions, and the result. Willingness to allow AI to deliver instructional content while you concentrate on motivation and life-skills coaching. Willingness to maintain high standards with students even when they resist. Legally authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship. Nice-to-have Requirements Experience in youth sports coaching, children's theater, camp leadership, Montessori/progressive early education, or after-school programs where you held direct accountability for motivating young children toward defined goals. Personal history of high achievement (academic, athletic, or professional), demonstrating that holding others to a demanding standard is a consistent behavior, not an adopted stance. Natural performer's energy with young children: the capacity to command a room of kindergarteners through voice, playfulness, and physicality.
