Job Description
L&D Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced L&D Registered Nurse to join our team in the Labor and Delivery unit. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, caring for patients during labor, delivery, and the postpartum period.

Shift Information

  • Shift Length: 12 hours
  • Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Schedule: Every 3rd weekend
  • Holiday Schedule: Every 3rd holiday
Unit Features
  • Number of Labor and Delivery Beds: 4
  • Number of Postpartum Beds: 6
  • Dedicated Triage Bed: Yes (1 bed)
  • C-sections performed in the OR: Yes
Patient Care

The ideal candidate will follow AWHONN guidelines for staffing ratios of 1:1 during inductions and 1:2 for postpartum care. Common patient diagnoses include:
  • Labor and Delivery
  • Postpartum complications
  • Hyperbilirubinemia
  • Preterm labor
  • Triage patients
Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in L&D, Medsurg, and Pediatric nursing
  • Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NRP
  • Experience in critical access nursing is preferred
  • Ability to titrate various IV drips, including Pitocin and ICU-related drips
Unit Operations

RNs will monitor telemetry and are expected to read their own strips. Support is available from charge nurses and the ICU as needed. Respiratory equipment such as vents, CPAP, and BiPAP is available, with RT on call 24/7.

Orientation and Training
  • One shift of department-specific orientation (12 hours)
Additional Notes

Key attributes that contribute to success in this unit include effective communication, motivation, and approachability. Candidates should be prepared for floating between Medsurg/Peds as necessary during slower periods in OB.

Response Time Requirements
  • Must respond within 1 hour for any standby requirements
