Special Education Teacher

Summary We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Gwinn Middle / High School. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs. This role requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment that promotes academic, social, and emotional growth for all students. Responsibilities Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs and abilities. Provide direct instruction in academic subjects and adaptive skills, utilizing a variety of teaching methods and materials. Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction and interventions as needed to ensure student success. Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and parents to create a cohesive educational experience for students. Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress toward IEP goals. Advocate for students' needs and rights within the school and community. Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development and review of IEPs. Stay informed about best practices in special education and implement evidence-based strategies in the classroom. Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation. Provide training and support for staff regarding special education policies and practices. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field. Valid state teaching certification in Special Education. Experience working with students with disabilities in a classroom setting is preferred. Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues. Ability to create a supportive and nurturing learning environment. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with special education trends and legislation.
