Job Summary The Clinical Nurse (CN) identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations. The CN directs and acts as a resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned, promotes compliance and support for policies, and practices autonomously in accordance with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. The primary responsibilities include providing comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties; and adhering to university, federal, state, and local regulations. Independent judgment is exercised within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. The CN provides direct patient care to a diversified patient population, applies knowledge and experience to assess situations, sets priorities, and uses abstract thinking to evaluate clinical situations. The CN participates in patient and staff education, demonstrates leadership skills, and demonstrates accountability for own practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act. Key Responsibilities 70% – Nursing Process and Practice 15% – Quality and Evidence‑Based Practice 5% – Leadership 5% – Professional Development 5% – Research Minimum Qualifications Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Moderate Sedation certification Graduation from an accredited school of nursing At least three (3) years of recent RN GI procedural experience Moderate sedation experience Advanced understanding of airway management Experience interpreting lab results Experience monitoring cardiac rhythms Experience in pre‑procedure, intra‑procedure, and post‑procedure phases of upper and lower endoscopy Experience in starting IVs, drawing lab specimens, and administering medication Experience caring for patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases (e.g., motility disorders, functional bowel disorders, Crohn’s disease, IBD, GERD, hepatitis B and C, cholangitis, cirrhosis) Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English Ability to use medical terminology appropriately Knowledge of current trends in nursing Commitment to excellence in patient care Effective interpersonal skills Demonstrates accountability and professionalism Adapts to change positively and productively Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation Knowledge of performance improvement and evidence‑based practice Basic computer skills Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, considering protective interventions and patient characteristics Knowledge of medical management of GI and liver diseases Mastery of relational competencies Preferred Qualifications Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (AMB‑BC) Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse BSN Special Requirements Position is critical per UC policy and local procedures; employment is contingent upon background checks, drug screening, medical evaluation clearance, and functional capacity assessment.
