A postdoctoral researcher position is available at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at CMU. The work will focus on integrating AI agents into dynamic multi-modal transportation networks and supply chain networks. The postdoctoral researcher will lead funded research projects, supervise graduate research assistants, and write research proposals and reports.

Core Responsibilities:

Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data. Conduct research experiments within the predetermined research scope and methodology of department and university. Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies may be required depending on area and specialty. Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing. Performs related duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

Full-time, self-motivated, with a recent quantitative doctoral degree in Engineering or other related areas A record of productivity Enthusiastic about programming and mathematical modeling A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Priorities will be given to candidates:

With working knowledge of at least one programming language, such as C++, Python, etc. With working knowledge of Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) and large-scale network simulation Have a good understanding of machine learning theories and algorithms With inter-disciplinary background Starting in Fall 2026

Duration: this is a temporary full-time position with a minimum duration of 12 months, with an opportunity to extend the position to multiple years depending on performance and availability of funding.
