Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for Community Mental Health Services

Position Overview

Global Life Mental Healthcare is actively seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) to join our remote team in Chicago, Illinois. This full-time position focuses on providing intensive therapeutic services to children and families facing developmental disabilities and intellectual challenges. Work Environment

Our work setting is primarily remote, giving therapists the flexibility to engage in meaningful therapeutic sessions from the comfort of their own homes. However, we also provide opportunities for in-person engagement at our outpatient center. The role requires some flexibility in scheduling, as therapy sessions mainly occur during after-school hours from 4 PM to 7 PM, with potential weekend availability. The position is designed to accommodate the dynamic needs of our clients while promoting a balance for our therapists.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive individual and group therapy sessions primarily in clients' homes or through virtual platforms, ensuring therapeutic approaches are tailored to meet each child's unique needs.
• Utilize evidence-based practices to teach essential coping mechanisms, social skills, and anger management techniques that address high-risk behaviors, including self-injurious behavior (SIB) and physical aggression.
• Support clients by enhancing decision-making skills in caregivers, enabling effective management of behavioral challenges within the home environment.
• Collaborate with the Child Family Treatment Team, including social workers, educators, and other professionals, to create and implement integrated treatment plans that encompass the diverse aspects of each client’s situation.
• Document all required clinical records, including intake assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes, ensuring they are submitted within designated timeframes.
• Participate in monthly consultations and strategy meetings with team members to discuss progress, share insights, and refine treatment approaches as necessary.

Patient Population / Client Focus

The therapist in this role will be primarily focused on serving children aged 3 to 20 years who are experiencing developmental and intellectual disabilities, as well as their families. Understanding and addressing the unique challenges that these populations face is critical for fostering positive therapeutic outcomes. It is essential that our therapists demonstrate cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse family dynamics.

Qualifications

• A Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related field is required.
• An active and unrestricted LMFT license is mandatory for this role.
• Availability to provide therapy sessions for a minimum of 5-10 hours during after-school hours, and flexibility for weekend sessions is advantageous.
• Experience in providing positive behavior support and interventions is necessary.
• Previous experience working specifically with children aged 3-20, particularly those with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD), is highly preferred.
• A valid driver’s license and access to a registered vehicle are required for travel to clients’ homes.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, is required before employment.

Preferred Experience

• Fluency in Spanish or Portuguese is strongly preferred to better serve our community.
• Experience navigating interdisciplinary team settings to promote coordinated care.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles and their application in therapy for children and families.

Compensation and Benefits
