Overview

Rison & Meek, PLLC, is a boutique law firm founded in 2019 focused on oil & gas title examination. We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Oil & Gas Title Attorney to join our legal team. In this role, you will conduct title examination and prepare oil & gas title opinions while coordinating and collaborating with our other attorneys and legal assistants. This position offers an opportunity to apply your analytical skills to advance oil & gas exploration and production in Oklahoma and other energy producing states.

Key Responsibilities

• Title Examination: Conduct detailed title examination of lands in Oklahoma and other states by analyzing instruments filed with the county clerks, such as deeds, leases, assignments, mortgages, and easements.
• Opinion Preparation: Prepare clear, comprehensive oil & gas title opinions, including acquisition, drilling, and division order title opinions.
• Ownership Calculations: Evaluate and apply conveyances within the structure of complex mineral and leasehold ownership chains.
• Defect & Curative Analysis: Identify title defects and draft detailed yet concise requirements to guide clients in understanding risk and obtaining curative materials.
• Collaboration: Coordinate with internal attorneys, legal assistants, and external landmen, division order analysts, and geologists to ensure a deep understanding of projects and their timely completion.

Candidate Qualifications

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.
• Active License: Must be an active member in good standing of the Oklahoma Bar.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience as an Oklahoma oil & gas title attorney or in a similar role at an oil & gas company or broker.
• Mathematical & Analytical Proficiency: Strong math skills are required to decipher complex conveyances and accurately prepare very large, detailed ownership spreadsheets.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; willingness to learn Microsoft Visio.
• Mindset: Exceptional attention to detail and context while keeping sight of the big picture.
• Ethics: Commitment to ethical conduct and client confidentiality is absolutely essential.
