Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Valid South Carolina teaching certificate. Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program. Five or more years of coaching experience. Essential Job Functions Administers the school athletic program, ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations, and standards of safety. Supervises the work of coaching and support staff; providing instruction, assignment, planning, evaluation, standard maintenance, personnel coordination, problem handling, new employee selection, and disciplinary recommendations. Offers advice and assistance as needed. Maintains accurate, complete, and up‑to‑date records required by law, South Carolina High School League policy, district policy, and administrative regulation for all district athletic programs. Provides adequate staff training and development opportunities. Coordinates transportation of athletes to and from events and practices. Develops and administers athletic program budget planning, payroll and financial management activities. Oversees maintenance of athletic fields and facilities; ensures proper preparation of fields for play and coordinates event security. Develops and implements procedures for athletic facility usage, including non‑athletic events. Coordinates scheduling and ticket sales for all sporting events; coordinates the work of game officials; coordinates the preparation and distribution of annual football program. Serves as an ex‑officio member of the Executive Board for the Athletic Booster Club. Monitors the physical condition of students during activity; enforces safety rules and regulations. Encourages academic excellence of student athletes by monitoring academic progress. Assesses accomplishments of students regularly and provides updates as required. Supervises the use of the weight room equipment before, during, and after school hours. Assists school administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develops reasonable rules of behavior and procedure and maintains order fairly. Serves as a team representative and promotes the athletic program by building positive relationships with media, booster club, community leaders and businesses. Maintains positive relationships with parents; schedules and conducts conferences with parents and students as necessary. Procures, issues, and maintains inventory of program supplies and equipment. Coordinates and/or participates in special programs, projects, or events as required. Attends staff, school, district, or community meetings and serves on committees as appropriate. Informs administration of events and activities of an unusual nature. Participates in efforts to build or enhance community support of school/athletic programs and projects; attends and participates in community meetings. Stays abreast of developments and innovations in the profession and ensures staff members remain current. Compiles data and prepares reports required by law, Board policies and administrative directives. Operates a vehicle and a variety of equipment such as a computer, printer, smart board, fax machine, copier, calculator, telephone, public address system, audio‑visual equipment, two‑way radio, etc. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as Principal, Assistant Principals, Superintendent, professional peers, subordinates, faculty, other staff, District Administrators, Board members, committees, government and community agencies, students, parents, volunteers, vendors, college recruiters, and the general public. Attends training, conferences, and workshops to enhance job knowledge and skills. Performs related duties as required. Physical Demands Use strength to lift items necessary for job functions. Sit, stand, and walk for required periods. Speak and hear. Use vision, including color, peripheral and depth perception; maintain focus. Communicate effectively in English using proper grammar and vocabulary; American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered. Reach with hands and arms and use hands/fingers to handle objects and operate tools, technology equipment, computers, and/or controls.
