Project Controls Analyst
Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid)
Duration: Contract / Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: 55/hr-70/hr
Client: SDG&E
Position Summary
SDG&E is seeking a Project Controls Analyst to support capital and maintenance projects within its electric and gas operations. This role will partner closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Construction Management, Supply Chain, and Finance teams to ensure projects are accurately planned, forecasted, scheduled, and tracked throughout the project lifecycle.
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting utility, infrastructure, EPC, or construction projects, with a strong background in Primavera P6 scheduling, project forecasting, cost control, and financial analysis.
Responsibilities
- Support the planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout of capital and maintenance projects.
- Develop, maintain, and analyze project schedules using Primavera P6.
- Perform resource and cost loading within project schedules to ensure accurate forecasting and budget management.
- Track project costs, commitments, accruals, and expenditures against approved budgets.
- Perform variance analysis and identify schedule or cost risks impacting project performance.
- Partner with Project Managers to develop forecasts, cash flow projections, and funding requirements.
- Review contractor invoices and validate costs against project progress and approved work authorizations.
- Create and maintain project performance reports, dashboards, and executive-level presentations.
- Monitor project milestones, critical path activities, and schedule changes.
- Support monthly and quarterly financial reporting activities.
- Ensure compliance with SDG&E project controls processes, documentation standards, and governance requirements.
- Participate in project review meetings and provide recommendations for schedule and cost improvements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related field.
- 3+ years of Project Controls, Project Analyst, Cost Analyst, Financial Analyst, or Project Scheduler experience.
- Experience supporting utility, energy, EPC, infrastructure, construction, or engineering projects.
- Proficiency with Primavera P6 scheduling.
- Experience with project forecasting, budgeting, accruals, and cost tracking.
- Strong Excel skills including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and data analysis.
- Knowledge of project lifecycle management from initiation through closeout.
- Experience producing project status reports, dashboards, and performance metrics.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Utility industry experience supporting electric transmission, distribution, gas, renewable energy, or capital infrastructure projects.
- Experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
- Knowledge of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other reporting tools.
- PMP, CAPM, or Primavera P6 certification preferred.
- Familiarity with work authorization, contractor management, and construction project controls.
