Job Description for Staff Nurse

The staff nurse plays a vital role in delivering nursing care to patients throughout their lives, from infancy to older age. Utilizing nursing processes, the nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care. This position operates within the established policies and procedures of our organization, showcasing a commitment to professional development and accountability. The staff nurse is also tasked with upholding practice standards and coordinating the patient care activities of all assigned personnel to ensure high-quality nursing care.

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients across all age groups.
• Utilize nursing processes for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• Adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
• Demonstrate professional growth and accountability in nursing practice.
• Maintain standards of practice and coordinate care activities among assigned staff.

• Completion of a nursing program is required.
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.

• No prior experience is necessary; new graduates from nursing programs are welcome.
• Experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
• For PRN positions, at least one year of hospital experience is required.

• Current RN license in the State of Georgia or NLC/eNLC multistate license is required.
• Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification is required.

• Advanced certification in a specialty area may be required (refer to addendum).

• Cardiac Tele: ACLS certification is required (Nurse Residents or new specialty nurses must complete within 6 months of hire).
• Critical Care: ACLS certification is required (Nurse Residents or new specialty nurses must complete within 6 months of hire).
• Dialysis: Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) certification is preferred.
• Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS certifications are required (Nurse Residents or new specialty nurses must complete within 6 months of hire; experienced nurses have 6 months to obtain PALS).
• Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification is required prior to independent administration.
• Pediatrics: Must identify and report high-risk situations. PALS certification is required (Nurse Residents or new specialty nurses must complete within 6 months of hire).
• Surgical Services: ACLS certification is required for PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU ; BLS is required for OR within 180 days.
• Women’s Services: Various certifications including ACLS and NRP are required based on specific roles within the unit, to be completed within 180 days.
