West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Departmentof Urology seek an Endourology and Robotic Surgery–trainedUrologist (ranks available: Assistant Professor, AssociateProfessor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be expectedto practice in Bridgeport, WV, and Morgantown, WV.

  • Duties: The successful candidate will practice in the areas ofEndourology and Robotic Surgery, including the management of stonedisease (ureteroscopy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, and laserlithotripsy), benign prostatic hyperplasia interventions, andadvanced minimally invasive, laparoscopic, and robotic-assistedprocedures. In addition to providing excellent patient care, thesuccessful candidate will also be actively involved in teachingmedical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD or DO degree or foreignequivalent and be eligible for state medical license. Successfulcandidate must have completed a Urology residency program, as wellas an Endourology and/or Robotics fellowship program. Successfulcandidates must be board certified / eligible in Urology. Allqualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

The Department of Urology at WVU Medicine offers a robust surgicalpractice supported by contemporary technology and a collaborative,multidisciplinary environment. As part of the state's onlycomprehensive academic health sciences center, the successfulcandidate will help expand access to specialized stone, BPH, andminimally invasive surgical care for patients across West Virginiaand the surrounding region, while contributing to resident andfellow education.

The System has undergone significant expansion in specialty andsub-specialty care in areas such as women’s health, cancer, heartand vascular, and neuroscience, among many others. The HealthSystem operates West Virginia’s first and only multi-organtransplant center and a 150-bed Children’s Hospital.

Today, the WVU Health System has more than 3,400 licensed beds,4,600 providers, and nearly 35,000 employees. Anchored by an880-bed academic medical center in Morgantown, the Health Systemincludes 25 member hospitals that collectively serve a multi-stateregion.

Meet the Chair


Steven Campbell, MD, PhD, came to WVU from the Cleveland Clinic,where he served as a board-certified urologist, vice chair ofUrology, residency program director, and professor of Surgery. Forthe past 20 years, he led the largest urology residency trainingprogram in the United States and was central to the UrologicOncology Fellowship Program.

Dr. Campbell’s primary interests include renal cell carcinoma,bladder cancer, prostate cancer, and resident education. He’s anationally renowned expert in the field, authoring more than 400papers and serving as the lead author of the American UrologicalAssociation’s Guidelines for the Management of Kidney Cancer.

Campbell has treated a multitude of patients with all types ofgenitourinary cancer tumors in his 30+ year career in thefield.

Before joining the Cleveland Clinic, he served as co-director ofUrologic Oncology at Loyola University Medical Center; chief of theUrology service at Hines Veterans Affairs Hospital in Maywood,Illinois; and co-director of the Division of Urological Oncology atNorthwestern.

After completing his urology residency at the Cleveland Clinic, hecompleted a fellowship in Urologic Oncology at Memorial SloanKettering Cancer Center. He obtained a PhD in biochemistry andmolecular biology from the University of Chicago, where he earnedhis MD and bachelor’s degrees.
