Planning Analyst

Planning Analyst - Zoning Location: 440 Court St., Clearwater, Fl Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm We are recruiting for a Planning Analyst to join the Pinellas County Building and Development Review Services Department’s Zoning team. This is a support role assisting the zoning division planners. Responsibilities may include providing information to the public on specific planning/zoning topics, preparing agendas for the Development Review Committee and Local Planning Agency meetings, performing routine office tasks in designated program areas, including data entry, file management, copying, answering telephone, and responding to emails, maintaining automated tracking systems, hard copy files, and records of division work, preparing public notices and property owner verifications, assisting division planners with research and preparation of agenda items, and other department or subject matter specific services, activities or programs as required. An employee in this class exercises a high degree of independent judgment and has the ability to work on several projects in the public hearing process simultaneously. What Would You Do? Conduct research and gather data in selected subject areas of planning work, transportation, and other subject matter areas. Coordinate work with outside agencies, consultants, and firms. Assist a professional planner in the development of a plan, program, or project. Apply analytical methods to data gathered to form recommendations. Prepare preliminary drafts on work that is assigned and finalize documentation after review and approval. May perform data processing related duties including using available statistical packages or programs, encoding data, data entry and retrieval, routine computer terminal operations and programming/reprogramming. Perform other related job duties as assigned. What Do you Need To Have? Five (5) years of experience in statistics, quantitative methods, civil engineering, urban planning, or economics; or a Bachelor’s degree with primary course work in any of the above disciplines or a related field plus one (1) year of experience as described; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of planning principles and practices. Knowledge of principles and practices of research, data collection and report preparation. Knowledge of effective writing techniques. Basic mathematical knowledge and ability to apply such knowledge in practical situations. Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs, which may include Microsoft Office, Internet applications, GIS, and Accela. Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment. Oral communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly to the public. Problem‑solving skills to gather relevant information to solve vaguely defined practical problems. Ability to review plans and apply provisions of ordinances and codes to determine compliance. Ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions required to perform assigned tasks. Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously.
