Security Officer
Under the direction and supervision of the Security Department's chain of command, the Security Officer will perform security services through interaction with the public, patients, and employees. Provides security at specific locations, responds to security issues, provides access assistance as requested, reports suspicious circumstances and emergencies, and completes other duties as assigned. This person is responsible for protection of designated areas to ensure the safety of the public, patients, employees, and property of Roosevelt General Hospital. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization
- Periodically tours buildings and grounds, examining doors, windows, to determine that they are secure and not tampered with
- Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or telephones police for assistance, according to circumstances
- Sounds fire signal to alert fire department and hospital personnel in event of fire to extinguish fire
- Patrols hospital grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles
- Checks cars and verifies if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as fire zones, turnarounds, ambulance entrances or reserved parking spaces
- Checks exterior lighting and access routes to emergency and fire entrances
- Escorts personnel to and from parking lots or between buildings as requested
- Answers visitor's questions concerning locations of various offices, rooms, and other areas within the hospital
Non-Essential Functions
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire
- State of New Mexico Guard Card Level 1, 2 or 3 certification or must be obtained within six (6) months
- Ability to read, write and communicate in the English language
- Must possess a valid New Mexico driver's license with a clear record

- General knowledge of security services
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to read and understand equipment operation manual.

Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions
- Work irregular hours including after hours as needed to include working day, evening or night shifts as assigned including on call hours.
- Work in varying degrees of temperature (heated or air conditioned)

- Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
- Pushing and pulling heavy objects on a consistent basis
- Full range of body motion including handling and lifting objects on a consistent basis
- Manual and finger dexterity on a consistent basis
- Hand and eye coordination
- Standing and walking for extensive periods of time
- Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50lbs.
- Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range
- May be required to work in confined spaces, on ladders, and in adverse weather conditions.
