Assistant Coach, Field Hockey – Stanford Athletics Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation, Stanford, California, United States. Position Description: The Assistant Coach is responsible for coaching the varsity field hockey team, primarily focused on goalkeepers. Key responsibilities include assisting the Head Coach with defensive principles, designing practice sessions, recruiting, training, and managing team operations. The role is on-site, fixed-term, six months. Your Responsibilities Include Practice design of goalkeeper training sessions, assessment, and individual growth plans for each. Assist the Head Coach with defensive principles and defensive unit play. Daily coding and video sessions. Game Day coding/filming. Daily team operational tasks such as team travel, meals, equipment, etc. Support and facilitate a healthy team culture that promotes self‑awareness, growth mindset, teamwork, integrity, and competitive excellence. Plan and organize team training and practice sessions, using video analysis to provide feedback within NCAA regulations and respecting academic demands. Recruit top student‑athletes within NCAA regulations and university admission expectations. Coordinate visiting teams, recruits, and related parties. Participate in department education and activities, including regular coach meetings, all‑staff meetings, compliance, and other education sessions. Assist with alumni outreach, fundraising, and other relationship‑management activities on behalf of the program and department. Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach or designee. To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have Bachelor’s degree required. Collegiate or professional coaching experience required, Division I experience preferred. 1–3 years of coaching field hockey experience. Strong interpersonal skills working with student‑athletes, peers, and the public. Computer literacy in Word, Excel, G‑Suite applications, Hudl, or SportsCode. Ability to understand and comply with all rules of Stanford University, the Athletic Conference, and NCAA. Ability to collaborate with staff in Athletics, the University, and the community. Coaching soccer does not qualify you for this position.
