Job Description SMEC is seeking a strong and diverse pool of applicants for the position of Paraprofessional. The Paraprofessional assists teachers with classroom management on a day‑to‑day basis by providing instruction and supporting the input, development, and implementation of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals, assessment, and curriculum design, as well as supervising students and maintaining ongoing parent contact. Minimum of an Associate degree or equivalent, or a passing ParaPro test score is required. Ability and willingness to obtain a 7D license and complete Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training within the required timelines are also required. Experience working with students with special and medical needs is necessary; a background in Positive Behavior Support and/or ABA/RBT is strongly preferred. Candidates must be comfortable providing personal care and behavior support to students. This is a School Year Position (184 days) plus a 5‑week part‑time summer program. Eligible benefits include Health, Dental, Life Insurance, and 457b/403b. This position qualifies for the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System (MSERS). Local travel between programs is required to support students at different school buildings. EOE Essential Duties Under the supervision of licensed staff, assist in the implementation of appropriate data‑driven, culturally responsive instruction, individual education plans, and behavior intervention plans. Maintain a culturally diverse, purposeful, respectful, and stimulating classroom environment that is organized and positive, and geared toward student needs and interests. Follow the schedule as assigned, including reassignment to different program locations as needed. Develop awareness of inclusion procedures within the host school and maintain positive relationships and ongoing communication with administrators and receiving teachers. Prepare for, attend, and fully participate in staff meetings, and student meetings as requested by administration. Demonstrate ongoing professional growth and skills consistent with current research and practice in education through in‑services, coursework, evaluations, and online courses. Complete Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training, with or without certification, as assigned by the supervisor. Drive program vans as needed for community activities. Accurately complete documentation related to student incidents, injuries, physical intervention, and 51A reports and/or DPPC under the guidance of teacher and/or administration. Complete all expected paperwork in a high‑quality manner within mandated or required timelines. Show respect and compassion for all members of the classroom and school environment, including students, families, staff, and other community members. Implement all aspects of the educational day, which may include activities of daily living (ADL) such as toileting, feeding, transferring, self‑care, and assistance with mobility including lifting. Effectively utilize any recommended adaptive equipment for individual students. Participate in all required Collaborative in‑services as well as those recommended by supervisors. Communicate all significant occurrences to the appropriate supervisor in a respectful and timely manner. Share in the overall daily activities necessary for program operation (inventorying, ordering, tracking as necessary, suggestions for program improvement, etc.). Maintain an open, honest, and respectful relationship with parents and others involved with the student’s success. Maintain professional boundaries with parents and students. Possess the physical ability to perform physical restraints or escorts as needed. Read and adhere to all Employee Handbook policies.
