School Parent Coordinator

The School Parent Coordinator plays a vital role in connecting families, school staff, and community partners to support student success. Working closely with the building principal and school staff, this position strengthens family engagement, improves communication, and helps create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive school environment. The Parent Coordinator serves as a liaison between home and school, assisting families in accessing educational resources, district programs, and community services while promoting meaningful parent involvement that positively impacts student achievement.

Key Responsibilities

FamilySchool Liaison

• Serve as the primary liaison between families, school staff, counselors, social workers, and administrators.
• Build positive relationships with students and families while fostering a welcoming school environment.
• Translate oral and written communications for families and staff as needed.
• Make phone calls to parents regarding school information, student progress, events, or concerns.
• Conduct home visits when appropriate to strengthen family engagement and support student success.
• Communicate student and family needs or concerns to teachers, counselors, and administrators while maintaining confidentiality.
• Assist families with enrollment, attendance, school procedures, and accessing district resources.

Family Engagement & Events

• Collaborate with the building principal to plan, organize, and promote family engagement activities, including:
• Open House and Back-to-School events
• Family Math and Reading Nights
• Parent information workshops (homework strategies, state assessments, district programs, community resources, etc.)
• Parent classroom visits
• "Lunch at School" events
• Monthly recognition assemblies
• Family celebrations and additional parent engagement activities
• Encourage parent participation in school events, volunteer opportunities, and district initiatives.

Community & District Collaboration

• Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations to maximize available resources for students and families.
• Connect families with district services and community agencies that provide educational, social, health, and family support.
• Support communication and access to district programs, technology platforms, and family resources.
• Coordinate interpreters and translation services for conferences, meetings, and school events as needed.

Parent Involvement Planning

• Collaborate with the principal and staff to review and support the annual School Parent Engagement Policy and School-Parent Compact.
• Assist in conducting parent surveys to identify family needs and establish annual parent engagement goals.
• Help evaluate the effectiveness of family engagement initiatives and recommend improvements.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate records of parent communication, outreach, and engagement activities.
• Prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, and other documentation as needed.
• Coordinate meetings, appointments, and outreach activities.
• Utilize Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and district technology systems to support communication and program organization.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the building principal.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 48 college credit hours or a passing score on the Kansas ParaPro Assessment .
• Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, Google Workspace, and basic computer technology.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community partners.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends, to support family engagement activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (speaking, reading, and writing).
• Experience working with diverse populations and understanding the needs of families.
• Previous experience in education, family engagement, community outreach, social services, or customer service.
• Knowledge of community resources and family support services.

Terms of Employment

• Full-time position.
• Work Schedule: Standard USD 480 work schedule with flexibility for family events and meetings outside regular school hours.
• Salary: In accordance with the USD 480 Classified Salary Schedule.
• Benefits: Eligible for district benefits in accordance with USD 480 policies.
• Reports To: Building Principal.
• Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board of Education policy and district evaluation procedures.

Family Engagement & School Support Responsibilities

School Year Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary family liaison for the assigned school.
• Coordinate parent engagement activities and family outreach.
• Assist families with enrollment, attendance, and access to district resources.
• Support teachers and administrators by facilitating communication with families.
• Coordinate community partnerships and referrals for student and family support.
• Maintain documentation related to parent engagement and communication.
• Promote a positive, welcoming, and inclusive school culture.

Non-Student Contact Days

• Prepare family engagement materials and communication resources.
• Organize outreach events, parent workshops, and school activities.
• Update records, reports, and program documentation.
• Assist with planning for upcoming school and district initiatives.

Professional Responsibilities

• Attend district meetings, professional development, and required training.
• Collaborate with teachers, counselors, administrators, and community agencies to support student success.
• Maintain current knowledge of family engagement best practices and district procedures.
• Demonstrate professionalism, cultural responsiveness, and ethical conduct in all interactions.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements / Environmental Conditions

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and move throughout school buildings and community locations.
• Frequent interaction with students, families, staff, and community partners.
• Occasional travel for home visits, community meetings, or district events.
• Ability to lift and carry materials used for family engagement activities weighing up to 25 pounds .
• Work is performed primarily in school settings with occasional evening or weekend activities.
