Director of Engineering - Transportation

Director of Engineering (Transportation / Highways) Not every Director role is created equal. This one is with a well-regarded Western NY transportation consulting firm with a strong regional presence and an autonomous office culture. You'll report directly to the most senior leader in the region, with the authority to shape how work gets delivered, not just manage the flow of it. You’ll guide a high-performing team in multiple Western New York offices, with the opportunity to stay close to the technical work if that’s important to you. More importantly, you’ll play a key role in supporting a strong and growing portfolio of state, county and municipal projects: helping ensure teams stay aligned, projects run consistently, and delivery keeps pace with demand. Why You Should Apply Lead a respected regional transportation team with a strong and consistent municipal and county project backlog as well as state and national projects Maintain hands‑on involvement in projects if desired; stay close to the work, not just the strategy Play a key role in supporting delivery across a growing and diverse mix of NYSDOT and locally driven infrastructure work Work in a collaborative environment with realistic expectations and sustainable workloads ESOP at no cost to employee and advancement fast track Strong benefits with no waiting period, 401(k) with 4% match, bonus structure What You’ll Be Doing Lead department operations, client growth, and project delivery across transportation projects Mentor project managers on scope, budgets, staffing, and execution Support teams working on state, county and municipal projects, including those tied to federally funded local programs Help ensure projects are delivered consistently across teams, particularly as requirements and stakeholders vary by agency Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including structures, environmental, and utilities Build client relationships and support proposal strategy and business development efforts About You Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New York or ability to obtain one Strong understanding of local, county, and state transportation project requirements Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and driving alignment across projects Comfortable operating at both a leadership level and, when needed, within the technical details Able to mentor teams while also supporting client relationships and growth How To Apply We’d love to see your resume, but we don’t need it to have a conversation.
