The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Alaska Army National Guard (AKARNG), Facility Maintenance Office (FMO) is recruiting for a Maintenance Specialist - Bldg./Facility/Const - Journey 1. This position is in the Labor, Trades, and Crafts (LL) bargaining unit at a wage grade 53. This position is open to Alaska Residents only. What You Will Be Doing: As the Army National Guard's Maintenance Specialist Bldg./Facility/Const. - Journey 1, you work independently to construct, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain multiple state facilities within the guidelines of current state statutes and codes in the most efficient and economical manner possible. Must identify problems, make appropriate decision for resolution, and perform construction and/or maintenance repairs as needed. As part of this position, you will troubleshoot and repair complex heating and ventilating systems. Performing repairs and tune-ups of burners for boilers and furnaces. You will also install and rebuild Toyo stoves. Perform preventative maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Uses direct digital control (DDC) control systems to optimize building efficiency and comfort. You will also be troubleshooting and repairing electrical problems ranging from lights to electrical motors and generators. Perform inspections and detect and identify electrical problems in lighting systems, building wiring, and electrical panels. Duties consist of replacing outlets, switches and replacing lighting ballasts, 120 volt and 220 volt. As part of our team, you will also be responsible for the installation, repair, and troubleshooting any plumbing issues in a variety of structures. Replace and/or repair broken plumbing fixtures, e.g., toilets, urinals, and associated equipment.

The Working Environment You Can Expect: This position is solely responsible for two facilities in Bethel and multiple facilities located in four villages: Kipnuk, Quinhagak, Kwetuluk, and Hooper Bay. Given the limited staff, this employee must be competent in all trades. The position must have the ability to interpret complex blueprints, ladder diagrams, schematics, specifications, and control logic. The understanding and use of computers and complicated computer software is essential. This position must have the ability to work overtime and travel.

• Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, installation, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Civil Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as buildings, transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
• Technical Problem Solving: Troubleshoots, diagnoses, analyzes, and identifies system malfunctions to determine the source and cause of the problem.
• Supervision: Plans, distributes, and monitors work assignments; sets task priorities; evaluates work performance and provides feedback to others on their performance; ensures that staff are appropriately selected, utilized, and developed, and that they are treated in a fair and equitable manner. Assignments include the authority and responsibility to recommend or independently take action to employ (i.e., appoint, transfer, promote), discipline or discharge, or adjudicate grievances of direct reports.
