This is a full-time, hands-on traveling role critical to keeping locomotives safe, reliable, and available to support customer operations. We encourage individuals with strong mechanical aptitude and experience to apply. Locomotive experience is valuable, but training is available for the right mechanically experienced candidate.The Regional Traveling Locomotive Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing locomotives throughout the Richmond, CA region to ensure safe, reliable equipment is available to support customer operations. This position performs scheduled, preventive, and emergency maintenance, diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems, and travels to customer locations based on equipment and operational needs. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanic who enjoys troubleshooting, working independently, traveling to different locations, and taking ownership of equipment reliability.Schedule may vary based on operational and customer needs. Regular regional travel required. Nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required.Compensation: $28.00 – $32.00 per hour based on experience.Duties:Perform scheduled, preventive, and emergency maintenance on locomotives, including Gen-Set, SW, and GP modelsDiagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issuesTroubleshoot equipment failures and determine appropriate repair solutionsTravel throughout the region to perform locomotive maintenance and repairsCommunicate with customers regarding equipment status, upcoming repairs, and maintenance prioritiesPerform equipment inspections and identify mechanical, electrical, and safety concernsMaintain accurate preventive maintenance checklists, invoices, shipping documents, expense reports, and other required recordsSafely handle and dispose of oil, diesel fuel, filters, and other maintenance materialsSafely operate hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, welding equipment, and other maintenance equipmentConduct periodic equipment safety assessmentsRecommend corrective actions when equipment or safety concerns are identifiedFollow company and customer safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipmentPerform additional duties as assignedJob Requirements:Strong mechanical experience and hands-on troubleshooting abilityLocomotive, diesel, heavy equipment, industrial, or similar mechanical experience preferredElectrical troubleshooting experience is a plusAssociate degree or technical training in a mechanical field preferred; equivalent work experience will also be consideredValid driver's license requiredAbility and willingness to travel regularly throughout the regionAbility to safely operate a cutting torch and electrical welderAbility to understand and follow written instructions, maintenance procedures, and technical informationStrong communication and customer service skillsAbility to work independently and manage changing prioritiesStrong problem-solving and troubleshooting skillsAbility to work outdoors in varying weather conditionsAbility to perform physically demanding work, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and liftingWhat We Offer (Benefits):Medical, Dental, and Vision coverageCompany-paid employee and dependent life insuranceCompany-paid sickness and accident income401(k) with company matchAnnual safety shoe reimbursementPrescription safety wearHoliday payVacationMarmon employee discount programAdditional Information:This is a regional traveling position with regular travel throughout the Richmond, CA region and surrounding areas based on operational needsWork is performed at multiple customer and Railserve locationsExposure to outdoor elements and varying weather conditionsFrequent work around locomotives, moving machinery, tools, and industrial equipmentMay require work around fumes, oils, diesel fuel, elevated work areas, and other industrial conditionsNights, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be requiredRequired use of personal protective equipmentCompany-provided tools and vehicle may be used as applicable to the positionSafety-sensitive position requiring strict compliance with company and customer safety proceduresGrow With Us:Don't worry if you don't meet every qualification.
