Pharmacy Supervisor
The Pharmacy Supervisor works as a staff pharmacist and is responsible for the daily supervision and directing of daily workflow, scheduling, and management, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures. This person is responsible for fulfilling all legal requirements, including the evaluation, selection, procurement, and distribution of drugs. The Pharmacy Supervisor assists the Director and or Manager in the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes through the use of safe, cost-effective drug therapies. The Pharmacy Supervisor represents the pharmacy department on various committees throughout the Tanner Health System.
The Pharmacy Supervisor performs effectively and efficiently as a staff pharmacist. Coordinates and supervises daily staffing, scheduling, and workflows to optimize operational efficiency. Ensures that there is sufficient staff to provide excellent efficient pharmacy services and makes specific assignments as appropriate.
Identifies and implements approved recommendations for process improvements including cost effectiveness, operational efficiency, and inventory management. Manages and troubleshoots technology and automation resources to assure appropriateness of preparation, distribution, administration, and monitoring outcomes of the drug therapy process.
Assists the Pharmacy Leadership Team (Director, Manager) in the management of operational and clinical pharmacy services. Monitors quality of services delivered and facilitates staff development programs. Ensures staff compliance with departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and protocols to meet regulatory requirements from state, federal, and accrediting bodies.
Leads the handling and resolution of complex issues and provides customer service to internal and external customers. Establishes productive, collaborative relationships with health system employees, medical staff members and within the community. Ensures the proper storage of all medications; within the department and those located in automated dispensing cabinets and the nursing units.
Assists the Director and or Manager with the hiring process. Provides orientation, training, and coaching to personnel. Assists with performance evaluations and corrective actions.
Leads and participates in quality improvement activities of the department and the health system. Plays an active role in the collection and analysis of quality improvement data. Maintains membership on committees within the facility to represent the department.
Attends appropriate meetings, sustains professional competence and promotes development through participation in in-services, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations. Contributes to the advancement of the profession through presentations in the department, organization, and at local, state, and national meetings. Responsible for conducting and/or attendance at Pharmacy Department staff meetings.
Employee performs within the prescribed limits of Tanner Health System's Ethics and Compliance program. Is responsible to detect, observe, and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, the Compliance Officer, or the Hotline.
Education: Bachelor of Pharmacy
Experience: Three years of related experience. Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, equipment, and procedures.
Licenses and Certifications: GEORGIA PHARMACIST LICENSURE
Supervises and instructs pharmacists, technicians, students, and other professional staff. Also orients and trains employees, assigns, checks, and maintains the flow of employee's work. Recommends and reports personnel issues to Manager and or Director. Initiates, with instruction and approval, minor personnel actions.
Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy.
Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy required, Doctor of Pharmacy preferred.
Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Georgia.
3 years health system experience preferred, with at least 2 years in a clinical pharmacy position required.
Ability to interact and work well in a team oriented environment.
Capability to not only perform, but to excel in a high stress environment.
Leadership capabilities are an important feature in this team driven department.

Needs computer skills in various program requirements.
Ability to organize various tasks and schedules in order to maximize time utilization and staff deployment.
