This role includes delivery attendance and resuscitation, daily newborn rounding, and outpatient newborn follow-up-offering continuity of care and professional autonomy in a collaborative setting. Job Requirements:
Master's Degree in Nursing
Graduate from NP, CNS or midwife program Certification/Licensure/Registration by the State of Ohio
Board certified APN, Holds Certificate to Prescribe (or CTP-E) if relocated to the state of Ohio
Registered Nurse with APN Licensure
Specialty certification in area of expertise and demonstrated expertise in area of clinical specialization
Professional membership in specialty nursing organization required
3-4 years' experience Clinical in Nursing Current experience as an APN, CNS, or Midwife in an acute or primary care setting Job Overview:
The APN is a nurse prepared with graduate level nursing education and authorized to practice and prescribe as a Clinical Nurse Specialist or Certified Nurse Practitioner in collaboration with one or more physicians or podiatrists. This position requires 100% of the incumbents time spent working in clinical practice utilizing prescriptive authority. Performs necessary diagnostic, therapeutic and resuscitative procedures for the identification and management of problems following established policies. Utilizes advanced clinical knowledge/skills and is responsible and accountable for maximizing health potential in an intensive care and acute care environment. Patients in this setting require immediate evaluation i.e. response time within minutes and continued monitoring 24/7. The incumbents skills will focus on patient and family assessment, diagnosis and management of health care problems. Although the APN assumes the roles of educator, change agent, researcher and consultant, the primary role is advanced clinical practice utilizing prescriptive authority within an area of highly complex and high acuity patients. Job Responsibilities:
Collaborates with other health care providers in individual client and target population care. Performs necessary diagnostic, therapeutic, and resuscitative procedures for the identification and management of problems. Completes history, physicals, and exams on high-risk neonates. Formulates individualized plans of care, with complete differential diagnosis and contributes to the discussion of other diagnosis and treatments. Functions independently in the NICU/SCN, when physicians are not on site. Takes responsibility to manage patients on a minute-to minute basis until collaborating physician arrives on the unit. Is the primary pediatric caretaker in the delivery room.
Demonstrates advanced depth and breadth of knowledge, synthesis of data, complexity of skills/interventions and role autonomy in nursing practice within area of specialty and population foci. Performs necessary diagnostic, therapeutic and resuscitative procedures such as intubation, arterial line placements, chest tube placements, etc. Consistently supervises inexperienced personnel in performing procedures, while providing encouragement and constructive criticism. Confidently provide medical decision making, as delegated and prescribed by their COA, on a moment-by-moment basis, due to the critically ill nature of the neonate.
Assumes responsibility for maintaining competency in clinical practice congruent with role and population foci. Supports the delivery of educational services in area of specialty. Develops a positive relationship with a patient's family and works as the primary person to communicate information with that family while keeping the team informed and included.
Uses research findings as a basis for practice and improved health care through participation and leadership in nursing research. Participates in the process of reviewing, revising and writing policies for the work unit yearly and as needed. Ensures policies and procedures are based on new evidence based practices.
Supports the delivery of educational services in area of specialty. Presents several educational sessions yearly to a broad array of medical professionals. Uses available networking to research information regarding staff development needs.
Participates in a quality review process with collaborating physicians and other health care providers to ensure excellence in health care delivery. Viewed as an expert in a particular area of foci. Participates in ongoing nursing and physician research. Publishes articles, presents at conferences, and is a member of their nursing organization. Participates in networking locally and nationally.
