The SoonerStart program is specifically tailored to cater to families with infants or toddlers who have developmental delays. As mandated by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the program aims to supplement and provide necessary resources to aid families in augmenting their child's learning and development through routine learning opportunities. The Resource Coordinators are responsible for organizing, planning, and supervising the implementation of early intervention services for eligible infants, toddlers, and their families.

Please note: This role requires full in-person attendance, with no options for remote work, telecommuting, or hybrid arrangements. The nature of this position necessitates a consistent in-person presence, and candidates should be prepared to fulfill all responsibilities on-site at their designated workplace.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in special education, early childhood education, family relations, psychology, sociology, nursing, or a closely related field OR
  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in programs serving youth and families may substitute for the specific degree requirements [official transcripts required upon hire].

Special Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future;
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment background check;
  • Must possess a valid driver's license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job-related travel.

Essential Functions

  • Knowledge & Expertise: Current trends, best practices, and research in child development and IDEA.
  • Collaboration & Collaboration: Works closely with families primarily in their homes to assess the need for medical, educational, developmental, social, and other related services; connects families with available community resources and support systems.
  • Planning and directing activities: Design, execute, and manage intervention services for infants and toddlers (aged 0-2) with disabilities and their families in accordance with the Oklahoma Early Intervention Act and IDEA guidelines, through the SoonerStart Division of the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
  • Developing & implementing solutions: Monitor and provide follow-up activities to ensure that early intervention services are implemented and adequately address the needs of the child and family.
  • Compliance: Documents the child and family's early intervention services and compliance with program timelines according to IDEA, Part C regulations, by keeping accurate case records.
  • Professional Demeanor: Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude at all times; ability to build and maintain positive work relationships; demonstrate integrity and ethical conduct in all aspects of your work; ability to accept constructive feedback to increase performance.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Location: County Health Department

  • Work Environment includes:

    • Field Work: Frequent travel to various locations around assigned districts, involving outdoor exposure to varied weather conditions, rough or uneven terrain, and potential interaction with diverse environments, facilities, and community sites. Visits to client residences are required.

    • Office Setting: Climate-controlled office setting with exposure to moderate noise; the employee is frequently required to talk, walk, and stand; this position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computer and phone. Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.

  • Physical Demands include:

    • Ability to stand, reach and bend 75% of the time;

    • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/printer, office telephone 75% of the time;

    • Ascends/descends stairs 25% of the time;

    • Ability to lift to 25 lbs.

  • Cognitive Requirements:

    • This role requires clear and accurate communication, strong analytical skills, and the ability to evaluate information and make timely decisions.
