Swim Coach

Location YMCA of the Suncoast, Hernando County Rate of pay $15.00/hr - $18.35/hr Shift Evening Job Summary In harmony with the Mission of the YMCA, and under the direction of the Program Director/Coordinator, the Sports/Swim Coach shall be responsible for coaching and instructing their team. The YMCA coach will work together with the assistant coaches to ensure that their team has strong leadership. Education, Training and Experience Must be at least 16 years of age. The Sports/Swim Coach must possess competence and confidence in administering a safe program for all participants. They must demonstrate good communication, problem solving skills, and a good understanding of the community. Upon hire, must complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE. Within 90 days of hire, CPR/AED and First Aid certification required. Within 90 days of hire, Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Young Children, Principles of Youth Development, Youth Affermations: Distinguishing Between Praise and Encouragement, and Foundations of Listen First trainings required. Within 6 months of hire, Engaging with Families training required. Get SMART is preferred. Job specific certification preferred. Special Skills or Equipment Required A genuine willingness to work with youth, parents, staff and volunteers is a must. Must be of sound mind and good character, possess good communication skills, be safety minded, and show Caring, Respect, Honesty, and Responsibility values. Must familiarize with YMCA rules and policies. Physical and/or Mental Requirements Must be able to lift and carry at least 30 pounds. If more than 30 pounds, must ask for assistance. Must be able to stand for extended periods, demonstrating physical stamina and agility. Job Duties Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment. Responsible for assigned equipment, and report any damaged or lost equipment to supervisor. Follow safety standards and personnel policy set by the YMCA, and report any accidents or incidents to supervisor. Participation in coach meetings and parent orientations. Encourage parent involvement in the program; meet with parents and encourage them to volunteer. Teach the basics of the sport in a patient and positive manner. Maintain attendance records and enrollment. Arrive before the program begins to set up equipment and conduct a safety inspection. Review and lead value discussions each week of the program. Role model all aspects of the SMART pledge. Maintain a clean appearance of the pool area and storage room at all times.
