WASTEWATER SUPERINTENDENT

We are seeking an experienced Wastewater Superintendent to oversee the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of wastewater treatment facilities and collection systems. This role will provide operational leadership to treatment plant personnel, coordinate daily activities, and ensure all processes consistently meet regulatory, environmental, and public health requirements. The successful candidate will promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.


Key responsibilities include supervising, scheduling, training, and evaluating operations staff; monitoring treatment processes and system performance; reviewing laboratory results and operational data; maintaining accurate records and compliance reports; and responding to alarms, equipment failures, spills, and other emergencies. You will coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs with maintenance personnel and contractors, manage chemical usage and inventory, support budgeting and procurement activities, and help identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and service quality. The role will also involve inspecting facilities, participating in capital improvement planning, communicating with regulators and stakeholders, and ensuring standard operating procedures are current and followed.


Applicants should have substantial experience in wastewater treatment operations, including demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience. A relevant technical qualification, environmental science or engineering background, or equivalent combination of education and practical experience is preferred. A current wastewater operator licence or certification appropriate to the facility's classification is required, along with a strong understanding of treatment processes, regulatory obligations, occupational health and safety, and environmental compliance. The position requires sound judgement, strong organisational and communication skills, accurate documentation, and the ability to make timely decisions in challenging situations. Candidates must be comfortable working around wastewater treatment equipment, chemicals, and variable weather conditions, and be available to participate in an on-call or emergency response roster when required.
