Surgical Technologist

Overview The Surgical Technologist I-Certified is responsible for preparing and maintaining the operating room, supporting in patient preparation, and deploying sterile techniques throughout the procedure to ensure a sterile and safe surgical environment. The role works as an integral part of the surgical team, anticipating the surgeon's needs, handling specimens, and assisting during surgery under the supervision of surgeons and perioperative team members. Responsibilities Utilizes critical thinking in performance of job duties and maintains responsibility relating to surgical technology. Coordinates activities with registered nurses and other coworkers in planning and implementing care within hospital policies and legal limitations. Prepares the operating room for the arrival of surgical patients, assembles equipment, supplies, and instruments for surgical procedures according to preference cards and type of procedure. Assists the circulating nurse with patient care activities including transporting patient, surgical scrub prep, positioning, application of cautery ground pad, and tourniquet cuff. Performs urinary bladder catheterizations under the supervision of the circulating nurse. Responsible for maintaining the integrity, safety and efficiency of the sterile field. Uses aseptic technique to arrange instruments and supplies. Performs instrument, sponge, and sharp counts. Demonstrates correct technique in handling of instruments, sutures, specimens, and medications. Consistently delivers high quality care demonstrating surgical technology knowledge and skills in the operating room in accordance with established policies and procedures and standards of care. Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations. Assists in maintaining a clean, orderly and safe environment. Utilizes a holistic approach (considering physical, psych/social, spiritual, educational, safety, and related criteria) appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area. Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service. Balances team and individual responsibilities, objective and open to other’s views, gives and welcomes feedback, contributes to positive team goals, puts success of team above own interest. Assists with OR room turnover including opening sterile supplies and instruments. Performs routine cleaning on equipment. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited school of Surgical Technology. Certification required within first year of employment. Prefer two years successful experience. Must possess good interpersonal skills. Must be able to take call. #J-18808-Ljbffr
