Senior Grant Accountant

A nonprofit organization is seeking a Senior Grant Accountant to manage the financial administration of an assigned portfolio of government and privately funded grants. This role oversees grant accounting, billing, compliance, reconciliations, reporting, forecasting, and award closeout. Responsibilities Manage grants and contracts from budget setup and registration through billing, reporting, and closeout. Monitor spending against approved budgets and identify variances, funding risks, and unallowable costs. Review expenses for compliance with Uniform Guidance, funder requirements, and internal policies. Prepare grant invoices, vouchers, financial reports, budget schedules, and supporting documentation. Reconcile grants to the general ledger and prepare journal entries, corrections, and payroll allocation adjustments. Track receivables, cash collections, revenue recognition, and outstanding balances. Ensure revenues and expenses are recorded within the appropriate programs and accounts. Partner with program leadership and FP&A on forecasts, budgets, modifications, and funding proposals. Support subcontractor compliance, invoicing, payments, and reporting. Maintain audit-ready documentation and assist with Single Audits, financial audits, and funder reviews. Provide guidance to internal teams on grant accounting, compliance, and financial reporting. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. Four or more years of grant accounting, nonprofit accounting, contract billing, or related experience. Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, higher education, public sector, or public accounting environments. Knowledge of Uniform Guidance, restricted revenue, grant compliance, and government funding requirements. Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, invoices, financial reports, and audit schedules. Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and data analysis. Experience with Sage Intacct, Workday, Financial Edge, or a similar accounting system.
