Stop-loss insurance helps protect self-funded employers from the financial impact of large and unexpected healthcare claims, placing our actuarial team at the intersection of healthcare, insurance, data analytics, and risk management. What began as a team of three underwriters has grown into a diverse organization spanning actuarial, underwriting, sales, claims, legal, and operations. Today, Excess Reinsurance underwrites stop-loss coverage for more than 1,000 employer groups annually while remaining guided by four core principles: integrity, stability, innovation, and quality service.Candidate selected will be required to attend the office 4x per week.Summary of the RoleAs an Actuarial Analyst, you will be responsible for analyzing claims and risk data, developing actuarial models, projecting costs and liabilities, and supporting underwriting and reinsurance decision-making. The role combines technical actuarial work with data analysis to help evaluate risk exposure, pricing, reserves, and program performance.Essential Duties and ResponsabilitiesAnalyze medical claims, membership, pricing, and underwriting data to identify trends and support business decisionsConduct actuarial research and experience studies, applying actuarial methods to develop and refine pricing assumptionsEvaluate provider network discounts and performance and develop network and PPO factors used in ratingDevelop pricing for medical, dental, and vision benefit plans and partner with Underwriting to evaluate plan designsSupport the review and ongoing refinement of manual rates, trend assumptions, and other pricing factorsContribute to the development and pricing of new products and benefit offeringsPerform loss-ratio and financial analyses to evaluate business performance and emerging experiencePresent findings and recommendations clearly to actuarial, underwriting, and other business partnersTake increasing ownership of projects and decisions while receiving guidance and mentorship from experienced team membersKnowledge, Skills, and/or AbilitiesProficiency in Microsoft ExcelExcellent written and verbal communication skillsCommitment to pursuing actuarial credentials, continuous learning, and professional growthAbility to work collaboratively while taking ownership of assigned workAt least one actuarial internship or other directly relevant analytical experienceExposure to, or interest in learning, SQL, Python, and AI-enabled analytical toolsDemonstrated leadership through academic, professional, or extracurricular activitiesStrong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills, coupled with intellectual curiosity and the initiative to seek out answers, improve processes, and continuously learnEducation and/or ExperienceBachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, or another quantitatively rigorous fieldCumulative GPA of 3.5 or higherAt least one actuarial internship or other directly relevant analytical experienceExposure to, or interest in learning, SQL, Python, and AI-enabled analytical toolsCompletion of two or more actuarial examsWhat We OfferWe're proud to offer a competitive salary, PTO & paid holidays, 401(k) with match, exclusive discount programs, health & wellness programs, and more. The base salary range for this position is $75,000 to $90,000. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
