Senior Mechanical Engineer Power Generation

job summary:
A Senior Mechanical Engineer with power generation expertise for a hybrid role which can be in Phoenix, AZ, Chicago, IL, Denver, CO, or Minneapolis, MN, or Austin, TX. In this position, you will serve as a discipline lead on power generation, central plant, and energy infrastructure projects involving new builds and plant retrofits. You will set technical directions, oversee design tasks, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Candidates must hold a BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution and 15+ years of power generation design experience, particularly in natural gas systems. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required, alongside expertise in P&IDs, mass/energy balances, and system hydraulics. Experience with combined cycle plants, reciprocating engines, or engineering software Thermoflow, CAESAR II, Pipe-Flo is highly preferred. This is a long-term contract role.

responsibilities:

• Act as a technical client liaison and align engineering efforts across structural, electrical, civil, and I&C disciplines

• Perform detailed calculations, equipment sizing, system hydraulic modeling, and pipe stress analysis

• Prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, technical equipment specifications, and detailed drawing packages

• Lead and mentor junior engineers and 2D/3D designers through conceptual and detailed design development

• Conduct site visits for observations and advise construction teams on field conditions, sequencing, and constructability
