About the Position

Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours (7 PM - 7 AM) Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: 2 years of ICU experience Description: This is a small hospital that does not have a stepdown unit. The ICU handles a mix of ICU, stepdown, and med-surg overflow patients on most days. While there are ICU level patients, it is not typical for every patient to be on drips or intubated. The unit has 14 beds with patient ratios ranging from 1:1-2, flexing up to 1:3-4 for overflow med-surg/tele patients. Required certifications include BLS and ACLS. Common diagnoses include ETOH, suicide, DKA, sepsis, respiratory issues, carotid endarterectomy, urology, post-surgical patients, open belly cases, AAA, and minor CVA without intervention. Higher neuro or cardiac cases are not admitted, and there is no cath lab on-site. RNs are required to titrate drips, including all common ICU drips. During the day shift, a designated charge nurse is present until 3:30 PM, followed by a house supervisor. During night shifts, the charge nurse oversees operations, with a hospitalist available 24/7 and an intensivist on-call during evenings and nights. Respiratory therapists are available 24/7, with always one in the ICU and a second therapist in-house. RNs must be proficient in reading and interpreting telemetry strips. Self-scheduling is permitted with manager approval, and block scheduling may be offered but is not guaranteed. Weekend and holiday shifts require rotation with permanent staff. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating requirements may include assisting on med-surg or ER units. Dress code consists of navy scrubs. The unit promotes a positive atmosphere, valuing comfort with diverse cultures. The policy allows for the cancellation of up to three shifts within a thirteen-week assignment without penalty. Charting is conducted using MEDITECH.
