Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit

Location: Summit Medical Center

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule: 19:00 - 07:00 (Night Shift), with a requirement to work every other weekend.

Job Description: The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with complex medical needs. This role requires critical thinking skills and the ability to act swiftly in emergency situations while ensuring optimal patient outcomes. The nurse will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, utilizing advanced equipment and technology for patient assessment and treatment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care for up to six patients, focusing on cardiac and stroke recovery.
• Monitor and interpret EKGs, administer cardiac drips, insulin, and heparin as necessary.
• Engage in hourly rounding during the day and every two-hour rounding at night to ensure patient satisfaction and safety.
• Perform procedures such as peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and tube insertions.
• Document all care and patient interactions accurately within the Meditech system.
• Assist with the integration of communication boards and technology to enhance patient engagement.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure:

• Valid RN license and current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Experience with critical thinking, EKG rhythm interpretation, and the management of complex drips.
• Prior experience in peritoneal dialysis and familiarity with high-flow oxygen systems preferred.
• Demonstrated competency in handling various medical procedures and care for patients post-cardiac catheterization.
• Ability to float between PCU units or med-surg floors as needed.
