Phlebotomist 5675Location: Lanham, MDSchedule: 8:30a-5pm M-F Sat as scheduledProjected Duration: 3 months + potential for permJob code: CVDJP00035675Benefits are availableDescription:Summary: The primary role of a blood draw specialist involves aiding in a variety of assigned tasks, troubleshooting, educating, and proposing workflow recommendations.Position Responsibilities:Experience in conducting blood withdrawals, labeling samples, spinning test tubes, recording maintenance information and cleansing, updating patient data, etc.Gathers and preserves samples following established procedures.Clearly and courteously explains the venipuncture (blood withdrawal) process and/or other specimen collection (e.g. urine or fecal) as needed.Demonstrates techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Completely comprehends all physician instructions.Matches laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes. Labels, spins, divides, and freezes samples according to test orders.Verifies all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.Packages samples for transportation.Stores specimen samples properly, follows temperature requirements, places samples in correct containers/tubes, labels accurately, and adheres to specific transport protocols to maintain sample integrity. Complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.Participates in annual departmental training sessions.Answers phone calls, reviews lab results to address inquiries.Minimum Qualifications:Valid state-required Phlebotomy certificationAt least 5 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environmentProficiency with Microsoft Office SuiteHigh School Diploma or GEDMinimum of 1 year of experience
